Walton lead by 8 at halftime and controlled the 2nd half. I didn't know which team from Walton would show up but I guess the outcome answers my question. Walton is now the #2 seed in the district and will play Grant County again in the district. Going to be hard to beat a team 4 times in one season.

Yeah four times will be tough. I sat right behind the grant bench tonight and the coach just keep telling (yelling) at his players that all they have to do is play 5 on 3 because Walton only has three players, guess that was not the best game plan. Plus a lot of the grant players talk back to the coach.

On a bright note the jv coach for grant will have a good future liked the way he coaches and gets his players to play.

If that is the case, then something is wrong. How can 3 beat 5? It looks like Grant's coaching staff could have come up with some defense to stop those 3 players.

Good win for the Bearcats - making shots remedies alot of problems.

I too, was just a few rows back behind the Grant bench. This was indeed eye opening. I've seen Coach Hicks be animated in a huddle before, but it was always from a distance. Got the full impact tonight! You definitely need to have a thick skin to play for him. Even one of his "stars" got a couple lectures tonight.

 

And the one player that I noticed talked back to the coach, ended up sitting for the remainder of the game (and he was one of their starters!).

 

However, all of that being said...there wasn't much for Grant to play for in this one, other than gaining the mental aspect of knowing you're able to beat a team. Win or lose, these two teams were going to meet in the first round of the district. While I'm not saying that Coach Hicks deliberately tanked the gameplan tonight...I don't think he emptied the playbook to try and come back. I'll bet there's still some "surprises" that he's looking to unleash come district time. (And the same could be said for Walton, too.)

 

The one thing that I absolutely left knowing tonight was...Grant is a MUCH better team with Hurley running the point. God bless the two younger guys that were in there tonight...but, they can't bring to the table what Hurley can. Does anybody know if he'll be back for the district?

Saw on another a fan said didn't think Walton had much of a freshman team. They have battled injuries to best players...the past 2 weeks have beaten Conner & Grant by about 30 &finishing had Boone beat up 4 with minute to go.

Think freshman record something like 14-6 with top players missing multiple games. These boys in the summer beat alot of teams with top freshman listed on another thread. If Helton continues to developed into missing big man Walton's soph & freshman can be special.

Helton played his best game I think tonight. If continues to be aggressive on defensive and offensive he will be a difference maker.:thumb:

The Johnson kid started running the point when Anglin quit. Coach Hicks moved Hurley off of the point before he got hurt. He still handled the ball some, but he wasn't running the point.

Johnson was a real nice elem/middle school player. If he can continue to progress then GC may have a bright future at the point guard position. He has always been a very smart player.

Understand. I guess the thing that I looked at was that Walton didn't seem too afraid of the other guys' ability to take them one on one to the hole, so they came out and were really physical with them out on top.
