While I do agree with you to a point. There is a good section of the GOP base -- especially the ones that aren't "feeling" Romney right now -- who still view Palin quite favorably. While I'm sure Romney would rather not be associated with her an endorsement might have done him some good.

I guess I should have clarified this more. I think McCain did a horrible job vetting Palin and I find it humorous that she would even say something negative about someone else not properly being vetted. She wouldn't have a voice at all if the McCain camp would have properly vetted her. Though in all fairness, I'm sure being attractive doesn't hurt.

Perhaps. I just don't think Palin has nearly the clout she had in 2008 or 2010. A lot of the conservatives rallied to her defense during that whole fiasco, but I think that support has waned somewhat. I wonder what her favorable ratings are today versus what they were 2 or 4 years ago?

I agree with this completely. Had the same idiots focused on real issues, we might not be having this debate. And Ms.Palin, you were as responsible as any in keeping the focus on his citizenship, birthplace and alleged beliefs.

 

When McCain picked Palin, I was reservedly interested. It quickly became apparent he picked her hastily to try and get the female vote....and that ticked me off. I was not only put off by the gratuitious play for my vote, but by the lack of quality he picked to do so. He'd have had a better chance to get my vote by choosing someone like Fred Thompson.

 

While we don't agree often, I agree with you on this post. The only thing I might somewhat differ is that I think McCain choose Palin not only to get the woman vote but also the far right vote. Frankly I think it was Palin's far right views and her numerous idiotic statements that lost the woman vote AND the moderate independent vote. When McCain picked her I was initially supportive of the choice: woman, Governor, DC outsider and someone that would appeal to the further to the right then McCain conservatives. Then as she was focused on by the press, I realized that she was so far to the right that she was going to cause the moderates to flock to President Obama's campaign rhetoric of moderation, that she was un-informed on national policy matters and she often spoke without being prepared. President Obama's campaign team did a great job of scaring the voters about McCain's age and health, thus causing Palin's flaws to have much greater significance to the voters. Masterful campaign tactic. It was also rather masterful the way President Obama's campaign team portrayed a McCain election to be four more years of Bush, when in reality McCain was nothing like Bush (sidenote: I fervently believe that if McCain had been elected, we would not be experiencing the DC stalemate we currently have nor do I believe the Tea Party would have had as much success as it did in the 2010 elections).

What will be interesting to see IF Romney wins the primary and IF Palin endorses him is whether her endorsement will do enough to turn out the far right for Romney while not being too much so as to turn the moderates to President Obama.

Does anyone even pay attention to endoresements? We read about them but does anyone think they really matter when a person enters the voting booth?
