#15 Knott Co Central wins over Letcher Co. Central.

This game was delayed 2 hours because Stewart broke the backboard dunking in warmups.

Letcher Central led for a large part of this game at Knott Central, then KCC took over in the second half.

KCC had a good showing in Lexington over the holidays, winning a tournament there with wins over Muhlenberg County, Montgomery County, and Henry Clay. Then they lost a couple of games in Florida.

 

Some have them as the top team in the region, and they are very good with probably the best young guards in the mountains. But I still think Perry Central will be the team heading to Rupp in March.

LCC has proven they are number 3, followed by Breathitt County, Buckhorn, and Hazard.

I don't follow it that much, but didn't Breathitt beat LCC at LCC earlier this year?

 

Scratch that I looked at the score wrong. LCC actually won that game in overtime by 3.

LCC is pretty good- probably a solid 3 right now. Honestly good region but only one of those 3 can win it, after that Breathitt can beat one of them but not win it-- same goes for Buckhorn. I can see another LCC-PCC classic like last year in region

I agree with Perry, Knott, and Letcher being the top 3. The region will probably come down to Knott and Perry in the championship game. But Letcher really surprised me by playing this well on Knott's home court, so maybe they could slip into the championship game too.

 

The archilles heel for Buckhorn is they're not as deep as the other 3, and they have to rely heavily on their star, 6'6 Matt Day. If he get's into foul trouble then they become pretty ordinary in a hurry. If Perry and Knott gets one of their stars in foul trouble they have other players to pick up the slack. Breathitt is a sleeper--they have size and a good shooting team. I don't know if they can get through 3 games to win the region but they could definitely knock off one of the big boys.

Sound to me like Breathitt and Buckhorn has to hope 2 Big Boys draw into same bracket and they only have to knock off 1 to make it to finals. Once in finals anything can happen. Will be a Great Regional Tourney. Where is it played this year?

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the regional tournament is at Knott County Central this year.

Nice place to play unless you are Visitor. Real nice facility, people are great. Basketball tradition is so good it's hard to win there.

It's the biggest gym in the region, seating 5,000. And they usually fill it up, especially on the semifinals night. The only negative they have is, unless they've done something about it in the last few years, is there's only one way out for traffic leaving the parking lots, so everything jams up at the entrance/exit point. It can be a long wait to get back on the road.

Yea, My teams have played there a few times over the years. Nice place to watch a game.
