When did Russell start playing Rose Hill again?

I've tried to refrain from chiming in on this thread, but I think I'll break my own gag order. First, Duck, with all due respect, you've picked Greenup each of the past seasons as far greater than they truly are. Last year you made the proclamation that they were the most "talented and athletic team". Again, respectfully, you were and are now mistaken in my opinion.

 

Secondly, I too wonder why Russell scheduled Rose Hill this season. Their stance since the OJ days has been to avoid scheduling them for reasons that Rose Hill didn't play by the same rules as everyone else, ethically speaking. So, one has to assume that now that Rose Hill has paid their penalty to the KHSAA and repented for their athletic sins, Russell will now schedule them. No more OJ's, no more Faulkners, Eutons, Jacksons.

Well Mr. Spindoc, with the same respect to you, I'll have to say I was right. Disagree if you must, but Greenup has had some very athletic kids who have just not been taught how to play. The Stephenson kid this year should be one of the very best in this region and may still prove to be a solid player before season's end. I'll withhold judgement on this year's coaching until then.

As far as why Russell is playing Rose Hill now, as Dickie V would say, It's Cupcake City Baby.

Perhaps it's simply semantics then. If by being tall, you mean athletic, I'll agree. But that doesn't and hasn't converted into basketball talent. Great pregame dunkers that peak 15 minutes before the lineups are announced for the past few seasons. Length doesn't equate to basketball savvy or skill.

I mean by being tall and athletic but lacking in being taught fundamentals, being in shape along with poor coaching. So yes, we can certainly agree on that.

Gosh, I think this thread has gotten far from my intent. I was pleasantly surprised with Russell only because 2 assumed starters from last years team are not playing and Russell was able to play at a higher level than I expected and was just trying to give them some praise. Like him or not, I think Coach Kidwell has done a nice job with this team.

Spindoc, I think I know what Duck is saying with regards to GC. I'll agree the talent is there but until this year, the coaching has been suspect at best for this group. Time will tell, but I like the things I'm hearing from Coach Youngman and his approach. If he stays, he could be someone to bring Greenup back into the mix as a perennial basketball power within the 16th Region. Again, I'm a football guy and never have claimed to be an expert on the round ball but I will be surprised if Greenup doesn't start to ascend under Youngman. JMO

:clap:I said I doubted they could put things together but felt they had the kids to improve and have a slim shot by years end, depending on coaching. Lol It looks like slim to none as the jury is now in on this years coaching staff. It is Ashland or Rowan, period.:popcorn:

Don't get me wrong Doc, I like Coach Kidwell and we are friends. I, in no way, was taking a shot at him in this thread. I was only trying to point out that you shouldn't get too excited about this years team, based on the schedule played. The coach didn't make the schedule. Russell has always, up until the last couple of years played a much tougher schedule. But you also have to admit that the 16th overall has been much worse than usual the last two years.

I didn't think you were taking jabs at Coach Kidwell and I understand what you are saying. I just look at the schedule and think that "if" the Region were a little more solid then the schedule wouldn't appear as padded as it is. I just pointed out that they do play the teams given the most attention as the top 3 a total of 6 times as well as playing 3 quality Ohio teams. I can't speak for them playing Rose Hill and the like.......as a matter of fact, I can't speak for any of their schedule. My reason for the thread was they appear to be playing pretty well as a team, regardless of the opponent(s).

We get it, send him a dozen red roses for valentine's day. They have one win over an opponent with a winning record, Fairview, who by the way, doesn't have a single win over an opponent with a winning record.
