Well.. It is what it is. Credit to Clark County. They played stingy defense. Pendleton couldn't buy a bucket, and it's foolish to say they are beginning to fade. They will get better, but they certainly laid an egg tonight. Clark County didn't look particularly sharp, but they certainly looked better than Pendleton. Pendleton has went two straight games going 6+ minutes without a bucket. Not going to win many games like that. Pendleton shot 21 percent in the first half.

 

It appears Pendleton tries to run their offense a bit too much through Mason Monroe. Monroe is without a doubt a fantastic player, but VanCleave and Howard did a good job of keeping the ball out of his hands tonight. When this happens, the other Pendleton players look timid and unwilling to attack and create their own shot. Monroe is having to do too much.

PC begins to fade................they peaked early.

If I remember right, PC got off to a pretty slow start last season too but put it together at the end of the year capped by an appearance in the 10th region finals. Lots of ball left to play this year.

GRC is proving they are a major player again. Fatkin is coming into his own and GRC will continue to improve as they get more game experience with these guys.

Our defense is what is winning games for us. Our kids feed off of it. Agree on GRC not playing well either, we only shot 32% first half. But holding PC to 21% was key to our lead. Vancleeve another player that is really under-rated. He won't be noticed because he dosn't score much , but he is a lock down defender and very vital to GRC's success this year. Howard is a huge suprise. Kid played at the Y last year, still learning the system and improving each game. Our players all have different roles and are playing them well, why our success so far. So proud of all of our players.

“Mason is a really good player, but he was frustrated, with his teammates — everybody and all it was (VanCleve),” Humphrey. “He’s our best on-the-ball defender and he’s going draw that position every night out. He’s the type of guy you would hate guarding you if you were playing the game. He’s everywhere you go and he really embraces that role on our team. I absolutely love having him in that spot. Dominic played really well.”

The Cards, who captured the prestigious tournament in their last appearance four years ago, put the game away by shooting 65 percent in the second half, missing just six shots on 17 attempts. Last year was a special team with high expectations. This years team is special, in that they have so much heart and never give up. They are really fun to watch. Both would be satisfying, in their own way.

 

On the coach, I believe that this year will go down as Humphrey's best year of coaching at GRC.
