I'm pretty sure they wrestled in a match for Grant County this year but not 100% positive.

Assuming you both are correct, my only comment is it is becoming more and more apparent that the KHSAA transfer rules have little meaning.

They moved into Campbell Co district, were all set to start wrestling, and I am being told Grant Co filed a protest to the original ruling that they would be elegible to wrestle. So who knows at this point. I would assume that if this last much longer, dad will just take the kids to the national tournaments for the rest of the year. There is one in Tulsa in the next few weeks I think.

How good are the boys? High D1?

They are very very good, compete and win at the national level. I would think they could pick where ever they wanted to go in College if they choose. Unless a school doesnt want to deal with dad.

According to the rules that wouldn't have mattered though. Under KHSAA Bylaw 6 as long as they meet one of the "Discretionary Exceptions for Waiver" outlined in Section 2 but also don't fall into the "Specific Restrictions Resulting in Denial of Waiver" outlined in Section 3 then they are eligible for a transfer. As I've said before, I think they most likely do meet the "BONAFIDE CHANGE IN RESIDENCE" addressed in 6.2, although I think many would argue that the following "Discretionary Exception" would apply:

 

c) If the change in schools is motivated in whole or part by a desire

to participate in athletics at the new school;

 

I can see legitimate cases being made for the ruling to go either way. Either way, I do not believe the children are at fault so I hope for their sakes they are able to compete. But more importantly, hopefully they can find a school where the problems that have followed them in the past stay away.

I believe some of the national tournaments, especially the in-season ones require you to be affiliated with a high school team. Not sure how many they would be able to participate in.

Cael Sanderson left Iowa State to coach at Penn State and I think that Iowa State is now really down for their standards, Penn State conversely won the title last year and should be right there with the "cream of the crop". I'd also add Minnesota.

 

Regarding the older brother Stephen, I'm not sure he is quite on that level but he seems to be always ranked close to the top 20 (though I believe he has dropped off since he quit wrestling this year) at his weight class. So that puts him still at what I'd consider the "high D1" level. The younger kid, Austin, if he continues to develop as he has -- then he could attain that level. By all accounts he is a top prospect for his age level.

 

I should add that since KY rarely has "elite" prospects I don't follow wrestling recruiting or national rankings as closely as I should.

 

One other aside, Mark Hall, an 8th grader -- who wrestled in KY two years ago as a 7th grader -- is currently ranked #4 in the country at 145lbs!!! Very, very impressive and to my knowledge having that much national success as a middle school wrestler is completely unheard of.

I am going to throw my 2 cents in here, for what it is worth.

 

Some on here state, they hope they know what Coach Bankemper is getting into. He has been in this long enough and I think he knows exactly what he is up for. For the most part, I think we all feel for the kids. In my opinion, the kids are the ones who are getting "injured" in all of this because of their dad's antics! I wish there was a way to punish the dad and not the kids but we all know the kids are the ones who get the punishment.

I dont have a link, but have confimred with a Campbell Co admin that the Myers Boys have been ruled eligible to wrestle for Campbell for the remainder of the year.
