The Lady Breds open the season in winning fashion. 19-1 after 1st quarter, it was 39-1 until 2:25 left in the 2nd when Newport finally made a FG and 42-7 at half, and 63-20 at the end of 3. Everyone in on the scoring and the jv players saw plenty of time in this one, not that they didn't in their "blowout" win. The jv game was tied at 16 all with 2 minutes gone in the 2nd quarter and the final score was 73-23. Even though it's the 1st game and Newport isn't Boone or Ryle talent wise, but this Freshman and JV group is going to give plenty of teams fits with it's speed. The freshman Mayes has some nice size and can move people around with her body and has some nice moves down low, also she can handle the rock and go coast to coast. Michaela Ware didn't play jv and didn't start varsity, but did a great job at the point when she got in. Coach Dawn has a wealth of talent at his disposal for the next 4 years that many will soon envy.

Not sure who you root for and i dont have a dog in the fight but if i was guessing....NC beat your team last yr. You can question a lot of teams about scheduling but NC is not one of them!

That's a bit harsh, BlueKrush! No one likes loop-sided games, but isn't Newport in NCC's district? The game has to be played and a win is a win. But, I had to laugh - 2 of Newport's STARTERS are, in fact, 8th graders! I saw Stanley and Orr play an entire 8th grade game (Newport vs Gray) just 2 weeks ago and Gray won! Their record for the last 15 years speaks for itself, and if you check their scheduling during that period it will match anyone's.

Why not just report the score and move along. NCC is great, a top 15 team in the state, and yes, previous poster, their record does speak for themselves. They have to play the game, we all know that. I'm not bashing the game, coach, team, or the fact that they had to play. Just the OP. Gushing about how bright your future is after 1 game after beating a bunch of 8th graders by 50 seems . . . over-inflated? Will u be on suicide watch if they lose their next one by 30?

Is this in fact true? Did all teams in the district agree to this or was it mandated by the state? Will this district be seeding in basketball both girls and boys, and baseball and softball as well? This would be a big step in the right direction if it is in fact true.

Even if NewCath was beat this bad I would have mentioned the score and the breakdown by quarters, but that will be a "cold day in hell" before that happens. The fact that Newport is very young was a factor in this one for sure, if you are not happy with what I reported I can see your point. NOT A CHANCE that any of the 3 (FR. JV. VARSITY) will ever lose a game by 30 this year, so no I will not be on suicide watch.

I don't believe this is true because I don't think NCC plays Bellevue or Dayton. They have just always played. It seems dumb not to play a school located 1/2 away.
