Just curious, was it an open ballot or did it have certain names that they picked from. Hopefully someone will know, I was just wondering how they went about it. I noticed that the program this year did not have a season long highlight film and also did not include honorable mention.

It was an open ballot.

Coaches of the year by class:

A Jay Cobb Somerset

AA Hager Sheldon Clark

AAA Dudley Hilton Bell Co

AAAA Jepp Irwin S. Laurel

Overall Hager Sheldon Clark

AAAA Players

With only 3 teams, small selected group, which makes sense. Hope I didn't miss anyone mentioned.

South Laurel - Zak Marcum (WR) Ricky Bowling (QB)

North Laurel - Ryan Brandenburg (LB)

Whitley County - Ladale Rider (RB), Codie Jefferies (RB)

Ricky Bowling POY

Jep Irwin COY (South Laurel)

Congrats to all these players and the COY!

Did they really say that the overall Coach of the Year went to Shawn Hager?

No offense, I think he has done wonders with the SC program, but any coach in the U.S. who goes for it on 4th & long inside his own territory (twice) with plenty of time left in the game deserves no coach of the year honors.

Say it situational, if you will, but no coach in the country deserves an honor like that for making TWO calls so obviously out of place.

Great motivator, I hear, but coaching is lacking in the mountains if COY honors covet such merit.

I love Hager and he did a good job this year, but I thought Cobb deserved the overall COY.

I can go along with that, or even Haywood.

The Pirates exceeded many expectations after losing a lot of great football players over the course of two years.

Shawn Hager was a great choice for Mountain Coach of the Year. He did an incredible job with the talent he had this year. Shawn took a group of young skill players and put them with a big talented offensive line and went on a remarkable run. Few people thought this bunch would even make the playoffs. They wound up playing for the Regional Title.
