American for Tax Reform Irony

Featured Replies

Was the pledge around for Reagan to sign?

Do you not see the point that it is hypocritical as hell for him to hold "Saint Ronnie" up at such high regard yet hold current and would-be elected officials to a standard he doesn't hold his sainted one to?

I have no idea. This man sounds like a moron. However, you are painting this to be black and white. Regan did raise taxes but he cut them so dramatically. He raised them a small percentage of what he cut them by. That is like giving an employee a cut on their pay by over half then raising their pay by a small amount not even coming close to what the original pay was and then spouting '' See!!! I raised your pay!!!" and acting like you did them a favor. I see liberals use this argument all the time that Reagan raised taxes and therefore he wouldn't even have a chance in hell to get elected in today's GOP field. To the man who doesn't do his research, yes that would be the case. If you actually take the time and look at Reagan's history and get an accurate assessment we wouldn't have Reagan hijackers that try and distort what he did.

So with this guy looking at Reagan's whole history on lowering taxes and his commitment I think he would probably keep the bust and campaign for him. Would Reagan want his support? That is an entirely different discussion.

If you think "Saint Ronnie" would get elected in today's environment, I've got bridges you need to peruse for potential purchase.

First off, this guy is a complete buthead. I clearly stated I see the irony. My point was/is, he doesn't have to agree with every single position "Saint Ronnie" had to use him as a model. Grover doesn't deserve the attention we are giving him.

Please, enlighten me.

First off, this guy is a complete jacka**. I clearly stated I see the irony. My point was/is, he doesn't have to agree with every single position "Saint Ronnie" had to use him as a model. Grover doesn't deserve the attention we are giving him.

He has one position. Don't raise taxes.

And it's all fine and dandy for you to say he "doesn't deserve the attention," but the fact of the matter is he has shoehorned his way into the conversation, and enough GOP flunkies have allowed themselves to be bullied by him that there is no way to ignore him.

Please, enlighten me.

See above.

If you think "Saint Ronnie" would get elected in today's environment, I've got bridges you need to peruse for potential purchase.

Spare me Jim. A man promising dramatic tax cuts while preaching small gov't? Really? According to the left, one of the most liberal republicans is winning right now. Romney. So you have no argument.

Obviously.

He doesn't deserve the attention. He doesn't hold a public office position and as I previously stated is part of the main problem in our government. Grover (other lobbyists alike) is not the problem, politicians allowing themselves to be bullied by lobbyist are the problem. I speak for D's & R's.

See above.

Then that proves today's environment has a problem.

politicians allowing themselves to be bullied by lobbyist are the problem.

Agreed. Which is the biggest reason we see the OWS movements happening.

If I had no argument, why then do so many GOP candidates curry his favor?

Because he is a symbol of leadership to the right. The same reason why every lib loves Clinton, Obama, Kennedy, FDR. What does that have to do with him not being electable?

OK, but that doesn't change the fact that seemingly every GOP candidate trumpets the fact that they've signed the pledge.

And who are we talking about "not being electable?" No candidate was mentioned in this thread. Just the fact that Grover is a hypocrite for having a bust of "Saint Ronnie" on prominent display, given Ronnie's tax habits. Or, are you admitting "Saint Ronnie" is unelectable?

What are you talking about? You just asked my no more than an hour ago if I thought 'Saint Ronnie' as you so disrespectfully put it could get elected in today's GOP field. That is who we were talking about. Look at post number 21 for your answer. I'm not going to circle the argument.

You either didn't watch the piece on Norquist or you're being obstinate. I know it's not a matter of intelligence.

The guy takes on any and ALL Rs who either a)vote to raise taxes after signing the pledge or b)refuse to sign the pledge. He's not interested in the general viewpoint held by someone. I don't believe there are any Rs who think that raising taxes is always a good thing . They all believe they should be as low as they can be. Norquist doesn't care. If you raise them EVER/ONCE you are a "rat head in the coke can." He would have killed Reagan for raising taxes. His history shows that. His comments show that. He is would not cut Reagan ANY slack for his "whole history on lowering taxes." He would have immediately sent funds to opponents to get him removed.

THAT is the irony of this situation.

You want a mature debate or do you want to just throw out childish insults? If it's the former, count me in.

Congratulations. You made a moron, look like a moron.
