November 14, 201114 yr I agree. Newt is highly intelligent but his challenge in a debate aimed at voters is to come across well. He doesn't. He comes across as a bitter old man. If the goal is to convince those that are not already in his camp that could be a challenge. I don't necessarily disagree, but for the highlighted reason I wouldn't underestimate him. He's pretty savvy, IMO, and a veteran of playing the political game at the highest level.
November 14, 201114 yr I'm inclined to think Newt's emergence will be but fifteen seconds, ala Bachmann, Perry, & Cain. It's the non-Romney vote & nothing more. Meanwhile, Romney has had a more consistent showing in the polls. I still think the nomination is his.
November 14, 201114 yr A new CNN poll shows Mr. Gingrich is only two points behind Mr. Romney. I saw another poll that had Newt with a sizable lead. No question he's coming on strong. But how long does it last?
November 15, 201114 yr Not one of Mr. Cain's finest moments: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/11/herman-cains-oops-moment-on-libya-got-all-this-stuff-twirling-around-in-my-head/
November 15, 201114 yr Say what you want about Obama, but nobody will make him look silly in a debate. Nobody?
November 15, 201114 yr I agree. Newt is highly intelligent but his challenge in a debate aimed at voters is to come across well. He doesn't. He comes across as a bitter old man. If the goal is to convince those that are not already in his camp that could be a challenge. I used the analogy of the grumpy old neighbor telling kids (the media) to get off his lawn. Newt and Romney were always my favorite however I never thought Newt would be this close. However, his poll numbers have skyrocketed. He has done awesome at every debate. I would like to see a Gingrich/ Obama debate. Newt and that ginormous head of his is full of knowledge. I won't say he will make Obama look silly but The President would have a hard time against him.
November 16, 201114 yr Author I think they've got three candidates that could debate with Obama. Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney and John Huntsman. The rest will get smoked. Huntsman?? :eyeonyou:
November 16, 201114 yr Author Say what you want about Obama, but nobody will make him look silly in a debate. Put him up against someone that truely understands how the economy works, and he will make himself look silly. JMO.
November 16, 201114 yr Put him up against someone that truely understands how the economy works, and he will make himself look silly. JMO. Agreed !!
November 16, 201114 yr Author Agreed !! With that being said Cammando, I do not think Obama is a blood sucking, evil tyrant with the goal of diminishing the American government. I merely disagree with most of his ideas but his intentions are for the best. Some people refuse to understand basic guidelines when it comes to a budget. You cannot spend money when you are in deep debt. You find areas to cut (ALOT of) spending, fix the enormous tax code, bring overseas jobs back to America and quit attempting (
November 16, 201114 yr Respectfully, but absolutely disagree. Mr Romney is not the best chance to unseat Obama. Romney would not rally and motivate the same voters that turned up for the last election and caused many to lose their seats. The same "tea party" movement that made an enormous impact in the last election would never be motivated and rallied by Romney. And I really do believe that "movement" is still alive and ripe to pick. Romney just is not the guy to attract and take advantage of that very present voting force. For this reason, if Romney is nominated, I believe he would be the worst chance to beat Obama. Who would be the best candidate then? I feel it's fairly obvious that the only GOP candidate that has any chance against Obama is Romney.
