The Culture of Weed

No, perhaps I misunderstood his post then, because I absolutely think that. However, you can sugar coat all you like, pot leads to other drugs. Whether or not that is psychological, chemical, or something else doesn't matter. Let's poll some addicts and ask if they just started out with cocaine, heroine, or their hard drug of choice.

Look back at my post, number 18. Most drug users have started with cigarettes and alcohol and studies prove that they did. I smoke pot, still do. (Don't judge, I am a college kid) Never have I tried anything else. There is no evidence to prove that smoking pot will lead you to do harder drugs no more than nicotine or alcohol.

First ask addicts if they tried alcohol before weed....then we'll see what the real gateway drug is.

No different than your assumptions. Not one iota. Let's see the stats to back up your assertion. And my point has nothing to do with the availability of weed, illegal or not.

It's a fact. There are more marijuana users than any of the drugs you listed. If there are more users, it's more available. I don't need stats.

Would your opinion be any different if they said cigarettes, alcohol, or Vicodin? Would your opinion be any different if the overwhelming number of those who tried marijuana did no other drugs?

Perhaps. Is there any data to back that up?

I'm not sure, just curious whether it would affect your opinion.

Probably.

I have smoked weed, done acid a few times and mushrooms once. That is the extent of my recreational drug use. If I wanted to do harder drugs I could have. Anytime I wanted. Weed was good enough for me.

There's one member for the poll.

Did you guys smoke more or drink more when you were 19?

I smoked way way more than I drank and I drank a lot in college.

I have a question for Purple, do you have kids? If so, what age if you don't mind divulging?

Yes. 17, 16, 15 and 12. They know of my past and they know I(we) don't approve of them smoking weed. They are aware that I smoked weed in college but not in high school. They are also aware of where I feel I could be at in life had I not smoked so much in college. I remind them of that constantly. I have paid tremendous consequences as a result of my weed smoking and they know this also. Should any of my kids lose sight of the lessons we are trying to teach them then they will be dealt with accordingly. My problem is that there are so many more kids smoking weed in high school now than when I was in school. We drank when I was in high school. These kids nowadays are smoking weed. High school kids are not mature enough or mentally prepared to be smoking weed or even drinking for that matter. What bothers me is everytime my kids go out someone has weed there. It truly is prevalent amongst high school kids. All I can do is monitor my kids behavior closely and pray they learn from their mistakes and make the right decisions so they can have a normal teenage life instead of being grounded indefinitely.

Would you approve of your children smoking weed in college? How about post-college?

I also have teen boys. No chance I'd ever approve of them smoking weed. So, with that mindset, how can I possibly want it legalized? And with your own admission Purple, you regret you did it and caution your kids about it and don't want them making what you seem to say was your same mistake. Am I reading that right?

And nobody is saying we should legalize weed for teenagers.
