I was one of the ones it was rubbing the wrong way.
I wasn't a fan of it. Once was ok, but then another plea just a few months later was too much I felt.

I honestly was annoyed the first time. If your business is saved by begging people to come in and appealing to their emotional side then the odds are good that once the warm feelings have worn off then you will go right back down the drain. I even said as much to many people when it happened the first time.

I agree with that part. It just didn't really bother me the first time he did it. After the second time, it seemed like he was blaming the customers and not looking at what he, himself might be able to do to save the store as it was obvious this business model wasn't going to work for him.

I personally feel Ear X-Tacy could have remained open, but with a much different model.

Exactly, his inability(or unwillingness) to adapt his business model cost him.

I have to admit that while I hate to see any local business close, I didn't shop there often. I did occasionaly, but the few times I actually needed help finding something, no one seemed interested in helping me. And I always felt I had to slog through a lot of stuff I wasn't interested in to find what I was there to buy. I did like their kitzchy baubles, but rarely bought them. The best thing, IMO about Ear X-tacy were their bumper stickers, and the origination of "Keep Louisville Weird". I know my taste in music is pedestrian. But, I was really always put off by having to speak with a Jim Schue or formerykywrestler clone and being made to feel as if I wasn't advanced enough to shop there. :p

I would consider that a selling point. :D
There's just something special about going in to a record store and taking it all in... Digging for that Pearl Jam vinyl you haven't been able to find yet and then VOILA! There it is! I don't get that same rush when I click Search and drag to my cart. The magic's gone.
That's why God invented Flee Markets. I've found some of my best album treasures there.

Do you run away from flee markets ?
Ear-X-Tacy will be open for two final days.

I'm assuming they will have some big sales and probably even on new vinyl. This might hurt my bank account.

I was wondering when the liquidation sale was going to be and how much of the product would make its way to other local retailers.

Me too. You think it will be a good one? One thing is for certain, it will be a mad house.

I have to think so, but I don't know. Depends on how little new product they were bringing in during the final month before shuttering the doors. Should be crazy, regardless. I'm going to have to make my way there as well. Hope the discounts are great.

Heading up here in a bit. What's the discounts been like?

Timmons got more mileage and publicity from closing/moving/closing/staying open 2 more days... and he didn't pay a penny for it. I had shopped there in the past but once the begging started I never returned. Previous posters are correct: he should have adapted his business model instead of the dog and pony "woe is me" show. I bet he made more money than you'd think over the past couple of months without spending anything on advertising. I have to say I will not miss it at all.
