Half time FG tries for chick-fil-a sandwich gets interesting result.

Featured Replies

At our half time the chick fil-a folks trotted out a pair of kids picked from the crowd to try three field goal kicks to win sandwich coupons for the crowd.

The young lady picked ...well ....lets just say tried hard but missed.

Then a senior soccer player in jeans and sneakers taking a two step drop and hardly paying attention proceeds to boom three in a row through first from the 20 ,then the 30 and then the 35. Missed a 50 yard kick by inches. All were booming, way high and straight as an arrow.

The kids got him to go out to the practice field the following Monday where he put two fifty yarders through in a row. Again with a two step drop.

Word is he is a good soccer player but not scholarship level and his family does not want him on the football field. So much for a full ride D1 opportunity.

He'd have to be one of the elite of the elite to get a full ride in football at the kicker position. It just doesn't happen.

Judging from the opening post, he sounds like the elite of the elite of the elite. Unless you're seeing HS kickers boom 50-yarders on a regular basis up there in holier-than-thou NKY football.

Wow!!! Sounds like that one hit home. Agree with Clyde, just doesn't happen very often.

We do. CovCath sees it on the reg(ular).

Usually at halftime these kids are kicking off of a tee so 50-yarder is not a 50-yarder.

Been a few decent ones up here lately who could hit a couple 50 yarders in a row in practice. Don't know if any of them got a full scholarship.

I guess the question then is what's the plus-minus for using a tee?

I've seen exactly two kids in the past decade who could hit 45-yarders with any kind of consistency in game situations. Both had offers from SEC schools, but opted for soccer.

Not really. Just that I'm not so willing to dismiss a 50-yarder.

Alabama has always given their kickers a full ride. I bet it was fun watching this being done. Love their food.

CCH's kicker as well as BW's kicker kicks a ball about 70 yards off of the kicking tee. Neither have any D1 offers.

Through the uprights?

Through the uprights?

Both Talkers and Nausbaum (sp?) hit it out of the or nearly out of end-zone with regularity! I think Evan Talkers has only not kicked the ball into the end-zone three or four times this entire season and then it was to at least the one or two yard line. Both young men are a great weapon to have.

I have seen soccer players do this before. The problem is the trajectory. When soccer players kick long distance field goals there usually isn't enough early elevation to keep it from being blocked. Especially at college level.

Through the uprights?

My point is that kicking off of a kickoff tee allows one to get great distance. No one trying to block allows a talented kicker to have accuracy. I saw a former baseball player at CCH nail it from 45 at halftime one day. Hadn't played soccer since grade school.

This kid may be a really talented football kicker. We won't know until he straps them on and has to sack up to nail one with 11 guys on the other side.

And even if he did it doesn't mean (and this was my initial point) that there's a scholly waiting for him. CCH had 3 D1 caliber kickers. 2 were walk-ons and one had to pay his way his first year. There just aren't many scholarships given to kickers. That's the point.

No disrespect to the kid. He may be the next Horst Muhlmann.
