Should Maxine Waters Receive A House Rebuke?

Featured Replies

To 99.9% of us neither were calls to violence. However, splitting hairs, at least this comment came with context (ie voting them out) for the 0.1% to understand that it wasn't a call to arms.
But where was the civility? Where was the rebuke for the lack of civility? I know you understand that, but some won't.

Some(BBfamily, Fox News) won't because they listened to an edited version of the speech and came to the conclusion that it was a call for violence. We can't even get TO the issue of SOB being used in the quote.

I was once called out on another thread for calling Obama a socialist. It was stated that was not conducive to the conversation. If the word socialist is not being civil, then what is all this rhetoric from the left? All I have read on this thread and others is a defense, by some, of the leftist name callers and a mild rebuke of their hate filled speeches.

I have heard the unedited version of Hoffa's speech and he still calls the Tea Party followers "sons of ___". I am calling out the hypocrisy of the left. Which it seems there are some who just simply do not wish to understand that Obama, Biden and others like them are hypocrits.

You, my friend, are the one who came on here saying that Hoffa was calling for supporters to "beat the snot out of the dogs nipping at the Dems heels."

At that point you forfeited your right to chastise others for anything as you simply have no clue as to the proper context of the comment. Don't hide behind the SOB comment now. Too late.

Okay, so, do any of you think Obama should call out Hoffa for his lack of civility?

I was taken out of context. It was just a play on words.

But we will never agree on this one. The hyprocrisy of the left reigns. Obama's cohorts are ready to fight as dirty a campaign as needed, since they cannot not run his record. That of big government attempts to run the economy is a failure.

What is never forthcoming is why the left is allowed to be potty mouthed, but the right is jumped on for things they never said, just implied, because they stand for less government.

And there are plenty of other comments to toss out besides Hoffa's.

Ahh, going Michelle Bachmann on us.

Ahhh, ignoring that someone has a point are you? There is hypocrisy from the left. I think you are a smart man Clyde and anyone with ears or eyes can hear and see it.

It is disturbing when we have members of congress, a Vice President, former Speaker of the House and Union Leaders using phrases like " take those SOB's out " "Terrorists" " Go straight to hell" when talking about the Tea Party. Whats even more disturbing is that no democrat on a high platform is condemning them. That said, I wouldn't expect high officials on the democrats side to condemn them. When they use words and phrases like this repeatedly people hear it. It shows a very hostel way of doing things. Hostility will often lead to violence even though its not intended.

Obama refuses to comment on the issue of Hoffa. His arrogance and failure to realize what he should do is why he lost the house last election and why he is going to lose the senate if re elected in the next elections.

I'm not ignorning anything. I've already said that in order to be consistent the POTUS has to make a comment such as "while I appreciate his support and I agree with his point about getting out to vote his wording was not civil." Easy to do. No harm done. Not sure why he doesn't go that route.

I think people offending by SOBs are looking to be offended. Maxine Waters doesn't represent the POTUS and she can talk to her constituents any way she likes. She wasn't advocating violence. Let her voters decide if that language is too "salty." SC Rs are not going to denounce their Congressman for calling the POTUS a "liar."

Unless your words can be misconstrued as a call to violence I don't care what you say. Your voters will ultimately judge you. Again, as long as it's not racial or religious in nature I could give a "darn" what someone says ESPECIALLY a union rep. He was talking to his peeps. No different than Maxine. No different than the cat from SC. I disagree with calling the POTUS a liar in that environment. However, if he said it in an interview and said he felt the POTUS was a "gosh darn lying piece of dung" or something to that effect , no problem. He'll have to deal with it even though I find the comments disrespectful.

Lastly, when one proves that VP Biden called a group of people "terrorists" we can have discussion on that. Until then it's he said she said.

BTW, I'm getting numb to "inciteful" comments. When we're inundated with disrespect towards the POTUS (Pres Bush and Pres Obama) then these minor blips do not even phase me. I was shocked at how disrespectful we became starting about 8 years ago and how we've taken it up to another level in the last two. "Osama" "Georgie" "He hates white people" "Stupid" "Hey let's kill Obama..I mean Bin Laden" etc. SOB doesn't even move me.

Yes, a derogatory term isn't meant to offend. It only offends those who are looking to be offended. Makes sense...

Didn't say she represented the POTUS. Didn't say she was inciting violence although this is how violent episodes happen...it has starts somewhere. Since she is a woman that is on your side of the aisle, you want to throw what she said to the side and have her voters decide what is derogatory. From now on, you should never remark on what an elected official does or say as long as its not racial or religious. As for the congressman, he apologized and I thought it was extremely disrespectful. Just as I do with what these class acts have said.

As for the Biden comment, that is your choice to comment. Given his record and credibility of saying ignorant crap, I seriously doubt the "accusation" is not far fetched.

Lil Waynes lyrics do not bother me. However, I'm sure they would to other people.

I have never thought of you as someone who thinks like " Well it doesn't bother me, why should it bother other people?" I thought you took others into consideration.

I have no side of the aisle. I simply can't stand ignorance and when I see people try to take a comment out of context and turn it into a call to violence I comment and take them to task. Since BGP seems to be about 75% hardcore R then chances are high it's going to be one of that group that makes the ignorant comment.

If you think I have an "aisle" you'd be stunned to come to the voting booth with me.

I don't care if someone gets bothered nor condemn one if they get bothered as long as they're basing it on facts. If SOB bothers you, so be it. Seems odd to me but I cuss a lot so SOB doesn't quite phase me. If an elected official that I can't vote for says for me or my group to "go to hell" what options do I really have? I've got enough real problems to deal with before being bothered by comments that have no bearing on my life. Sure, I may comment on them but it truly is a "no biggie." Again, I'm numb to these comments made about our current and former President.

The person who is not the Press Sec for the President screwed up today with his lame argument as to why the President didn't comment and Jake Tapper made him look foolish...deservedly. This is a non-issue in regards to issues facing the President. He should make an official comment and move on.

I understand the violence part. I don't think the comments were a call to people to grab your guns and torches and take back America. My comments were not refuting that. I was saying that I think when people in very high positions make these stupid comments, their colleagues should call them out on it. When they don't it shows the American people that our elected officials are not working towards bi-partisan efforts. Its bad for business.

I might be stunned but based on who you defend, what you defend and what you advocate for, it's clear you are center left.
