Are there any kickers in Ashland?

Featured Replies

I was simply wondering if there are any kickers over there? Last season, if I recall correctly, there was a couple of attempts at PATs and they weren't good from what I recollect, so they ditched that effort and went for 2 every time and I think they converted at a very high rate. Just wondering if anyone else does that? OR if there are simply no soccer kids over there who can't contribute to that end. Anyone?

Having a poor kicking game is a sure way to lose a close game against a good team.

You are correct. I know the six years we had great kickers, we won several games per year because of our kicking game. A good kicker can not be overlooked.

From what I hear Ashland no longer uses soccer players because Coach Hart said something along the lines, "I'm not putting up with those soccer prima donnas anymore". Is that true?

Definitely not true. The soccer kids just don't want to come out and play. Plus when you convert 2 pt conversions at around 67% that's better than kicking for one. And when you're good at goin for 2 it puts pressure on a kicking team. 8-0 or 16-0 is a lot more intimidating to a team who doesn't regularly go for two.

I'd say over the past few years we have lost more then a few games because of a poor kicking. Helps so much in tight games to have a good kicker.

I think that the 2pt conversion issue never pops up against lesser or equal competition.

Hey, not that they ever call important game-tying field goals good in important games at Putnam Stadium anyhow... =)

I was there. Great game, drama down the last kick! Won't have to worry about that now, huh?

Maybe not, but it came from three different Ashland fans. Just saying...........

It was a great game, but it was JC kicking to tie - not Ashland.

The close game that I remember Ashland loosing due to a kick was the Ironton game in 2005. We were behind by 1-point with time expiring. We attempted a FG, but shanked it.

Graybeard sighting! Graybeard sighting!

^^^ It's football season ...

Yep, I was there for the JC game. It could play out to be a 2pt conversion contest now. I will say in the games I watched Ashland last season, they were very creative and efficient on the 2pt conversions.
