I am not aware of such test though I have been removed from the scene the past few years. How does a baseline test work?

 

Players are given tests for cognitive and motor skills while they are healthy. This establishes a baseline. If/when an athlete suffers a concussion, the same tests are given. He/she cannot return to play until they can get results that match the baseline test.

 

As the parent of a young athlete who has suffered concussions, I have seen where he appears to be symptom-free three weeks after his injury, but the testing still shows he has not healed. I would urge every parent of a player that has suffered a blow to the head (yes, getting your "bell rung" is usually a concussion) to have them tested at a sportsmedicine facility. Fortunately I am close to Cincinnati Childrens. The testing they do goes beyond asking "Do you still have a headache?"

 

Be very careful of blows to the head. Getting a concussion while not healed from the last one can have devastating effects, and it may take weeks (like 3-5 or more weeks) to be fully healed.

I believe most if not all the public schools in the greater Lexington area are doing it now. Not sure if KHSAA now requires it, but they should.

The KHSAA does not require schools to have a certified athletic trainer onsite. My guess is they do not require this either.

Greenup County has started baseline testing this year for all high impact sports (including our cheerleaders).
