Yes in deed. Congrats to Clark County on the Win & congrats to Bishop Brossart on a great year. I've seen the Lady Mustangs play 6 or 7 times this year. Definetly wasn't there best defensive night. But give credit to the young lady's from Clark for putting the ball in play . Should be a great finals tonight. Cant wait to see it!!

FALMOUTH — George Rogers Clark will get its rematch with Montgomery County.

The Lady Cardinals advanced to the 10th Region Tournament finals Tuesday night with a 9-0 shutout of Bishop Brossart.

 

Puckett’s troops wasted no time disposing of the Lady Mustangs and scored four runs in the first inning. Caitlin Collins — one of five players who finished with two hits — opened with a triple that set the tone for Clark’s first-inning outburst.

Kelsey May capped the inning with a double that plated five runs, giving Clark a 4-0 advantage.

“It felt really good to come out (and hit) like that,” Collins said.

 

Puckett said his team’s top priority was to establish control of the game early.

“We tried to hit the first-pitch fastball,” he said. “We knew that if she got ahead (in the count), we might have some trouble. We hit the ball better tonight than we have all year.”

 

The defending region champs finished with 14 hits, including three for extra bases.

The Lady Cards broke the game open in the third with four more runs, complete with four hits, including two infield singles by Megan Bealert and Whitney Conkwright, both of whom later scored.

 

Clark pitcher Amy Haggard was in control of the contest from the first pitch and retired 17 of the first 18 batters she faced. Haggard gave up a single to open the sixth and another hit in the seventh. Haggard allowed just three hits, struckout four and walked just one batter. Only two Bishop Brossart runners advanced past first base.

Despite the early lead, Haggard stayed focused on the Lady Mustangs instead of the finale.

 

“I wanted to keep them (Montgomery County) out of my mind, because I wanted to get this game over and win it so we could face them (in the finals),” she said. “We need to come out, jump on them quick, get those first couple of runs and go from there.”

 

In addition to her three hits, Collins made a diving catch in center field in the third inning. Collins said the Lady Cards are ready for the next challenge.

 

“We’ve lost to them three times this year and it’s hard to beat a team four times,” she said. “We’re ready to play against them again.”
