#4 for Cooper is Thompson.

 

What about my question about the pitchers finishing ?

Pitching rules are in place so any pitcher going over 2 innings must have rest. See below:

 

XIII) Special Tournament and Regular Season Rules

A) Pitching Limitations

1) For purposes of this rule, delivery of a minimum of one (1) pitch

constitutes having pitched in one inning.

2) A pitcher may pitch in a maximum of nine (9) innings in one

(1) day, but not more than fifteen (15) innings in any seven (7)

day period.

3) If a pitcher pitches in three (3) innings to five (5) innings, in

one (1) day, that pitcher shall have one (1) calendar day of

rest beginning with the day following the first day a pitch is

thrown.

4) If a pitcher pitches in six (6) innings, that pitcher shall have two

(2) calendar days of rest beginning with the day following the

first day a pitch is thrown.

5) If a pitcher pitches in seven (7) or more innings in one day, that

pitcher shall have three (3) calendar days of rest beginning with

the day following the first day a pitch is thrown.

6) This limitation affects regular season and postseason play.

 

The only difference is during the state tournamnet when the teams playing the first day (4 games) must wait until the other 4 games are complete beofre the count begins for pitching again.

Not wanting to start any controversy amongst the Cooperites, but I can't help but find the choice of starting pitcher for Cooper today a bit curious. While Dunn is a nice pitcher, why go with a freshman in that situation, especially one who has control issues at times? He looked very nervous out there and it showed right away. Obviously he had a short leash, but it was still long enough to put Cooper in a huge hole (3 batters - BB, BB, HR). Thompson came in and did a very nice job. I can't help but feel if Thompson (a senior) starts, this is a 1-0 or 2-0 ball game at worst. Any thoughts on this?

Question, can the pitchers come back tomorrow and finish the games? The game is in the bottom of the 5th with one out and Boone hitting.

Ryle got the tarp out before the rain hit so the infield should be in pretty good shape. Teegarden is pitching for Boone and number 4 for Cooper. (Sorry I do not know his name)

 

I don't believe there are any outs. 2-2 count on the first batter of the inning.

Wow. Did the boys' tarp blow out to the outfield or what? Ryle's field was pretty wet this morning, but dried in plenty of time. Ryle's infield dirt drains very well, plus the strong breeze really helps to dry out a field. The bigger challenge is the moisture on the infield (and outfield) grass.

Driving by it looked to be off from home plate and entire left side of infield to behind second base.

Coop, maybe you should ask the umpire after the first pitch, why he had him stand on the field for 5+ minute delay and then tell him he had to stand different from the way he's stood all year, which is very similar to Teegarden. That is the only time he would have even looked "nervous". You would also need to understand who's been pitching what games all year, against who and what their true ERA's are. Control at times? Yes! ERA? 1 or 2 for the team and against upper tier teams. There are dynamics within the pitching staff you or anybody are just are not aware of.

As I recall, it was not 5+ minutes maybe 2 to 3. What was the issue anyway? So, are you saying that Teegarden got away with something that Dunn did not?

It was not a 5+ minute delay. It was maybe 2 minutes. And I know because I was playing music during that period and know about how much of the song I played.

But just based on yesterday, Thompson looks to be a much better pitcher - better fastball, better control, and better off speed. Plus he's a senior. Tough environment for a freshman (Dunn) to throw. He obviously had a very, very short leash - all of 3 batters. So if their coach wasn't all that confident in him, just seems to me he'd have gone with Thompson from the start. OK 5+ probally pushing it. They are similar in regards to how they stand on the mound. It has something to do with how far ones shoulder is more forward than the other from what I can gather. Trying to get clarification on what the ruling was. If this is the case, then there has been a huge failure on part of the umpires. All year long they had nothing to say about how he sets up on the mound. I truthfully don't feel that either pitcher got away with anything. Neither was doing anything wrong. JMO!

I will say once that happened it would have been best to pull him right after the umpire stopped the game and then addressed him about the way he stood on the mound. At that time I would agree with you on the "Nervous" or "out of sorts". Thompson came in and picked his teammate up, just like he should have done as a senior leader. Props to Thompson no doubt!
