This is THE year for Bowling Green football. By my count from comparing last year's roster to this one, they return 28 seniors (down from 32 potential with 4 no longer listed from last year). Offensively, they lose a little bit on the line, losing tackle Jake Hodges and center Adam Hoffman, but return the other three including 1st team all-state and 6'6", 310 lbs monster Joe Manley at right guard (assuming he stays there). They also will be without both of their starting tight ends from last year, but that's where the bleeding stops. They return their WR corps intact, almost all of their RB corps including leading rusher Hunter Neveras and playmaker Brandon Green (who I believe Trinity fans were quite impressed with). They'll have Scooter Hollis entering as a third year starter at quarterback (though he did split time as a sophomore). All in all, Bowling Green returns 7 offensive starters, 6 of which will be experienced seniors. But the defense is what has Bowling Green fans really over the moon. Defense is what the Purples have made their living on for years, and they return 9 starters from a unit that allowed just over 9 points a game last year, all seniors. Their losses were very good players in DE Franco Irvin and CB Devon Daniel, but still, 9 seniors is an incredible amount to return from a very strong defensive unit.

 

So what does Bowling Green need to do to be successful? They need to rely on a senior dominated team to lead the way to the promised land. They've had this year circled for quite some time, and the departures on the other side of the state only heightened the expectations. The Purples still have a tough road out of the region and always tough John Hardin also in the way, but I fully expect that the Purples will enter as preseason #1 and favorite for the state championship.

Just beat Warren Central and I can handle everything else that may happen.:lol:
