The community is investing 60 million dollars into their young people (not to mention that the venue will probably host an assortment of money raising events...which will probably pay for itself in the short term). If you are willing to invest that much into your youth, I applaud you...you do have your priorities correct in my opinion!!

Darkhorse I am not going to argue with you. I think it is ridiculous to think dumping 60 million dollars into a high school football stadium is going to do all you suggest, if that is the case every community in America would vote to build a 60 Million dollar High School stadium. Think about it we are talking about a high school, not even a junior college would do such a thing, we are not talking about a million dollars, or two, or six, or ten, or fifteen, or 20, 25 or 35 or 40 or 45 or 50 we are talking about 60 MILLION Dollars for a HIGH SCHOOL football stadium. What HS football stadium do you know generates all the things you have listed above? It is ridiculous, period IMO. If the community voted to build it, build it, but IMO it is stupid. Let's be reasonable, that is all I am asking for. 60 million is not, and as I said if a HS football stadium can do everything you are suggesting than what a blueprint for economic success. Someone needs to call Obama and ask for federal grant money to build 60 million dollar High School football stadiums for every high school in America. To think we as american's never knew it could be that simple.

 

One final question couldn't a 5 million or even a ten million dollar stadium accomplish the high rate of return you envision just as easily.....Thinking big is one thing, thinking unreasonably is another. It is this kind of thinking that got our nation in the financial bind we are in. Many want to live beyond thier means, everyone wants the next bigger and better thing instead of being content with what they have and making the best of what they have. Stadiums don't increase player participation, coaches who care and love kids do, stadiums don't bring jobs in, a community willing to invest in business's and have a welcoming attitude does. I understand that, but unfortunately people do not have a good pretty understanding of what generates revenue. Classic example is our government and our out of control spending. I am a HS football fan and coach. I know all about Texas HS football as everyone else. It is over the top and ridiculous to build a 60 million dollar HS stadium, period, IMO. It is one of the things that is wrong with our nation.

This is a big difference between "communist" and "Nazi". That is why I included the dictionary definition. Communist is no more a derogatory term then "Democrat" or "Republican". A communist has a particular view of what the government should control. And Dark Horse was only comparing your belief about how the money was spent with that of a communist.
