Bishop Brossart 7, Newport Central Catholic 0

Featured Replies

In what was supposed to be a pitcher's duel between two of the top pitchers in Northern Kentucky this one was all Alicia Miller as the senior lefthander totally dominated her counterpart from Newport Central Catholic in an easy 7-0 NKAC win at Bartlett Field in Newport. It could have been much worse as Brossart left 10 runners on base including five in scoring position the first two innings. The Lady 'Stangs knocked out 13 hits while Miller scattered five harmless singles over 7 innings. Offensively the Lady 'Stangs had four players with at least two hits including Trisha Kramer, Molly Williams, Allie Anstead, and Erica Riedeman. Riedeman scored the first run of the game after doubling and then had a two rbi double during a big sixth inning to put the game out of hand.:D

Brossart is now 11-2 on the young season and will take on the Big Trains of Silver Grove Saturday morning.

Riherds scoreboard has you at 11-1, whos the other loss.

WOW !! I would of expected this to be a better game. MIller must be throwing well.

I was at this game and Brossart did NOT have 13 hits. Wait a minute I forgot, the 1st inning hit through the legs of the 3rd baseman according to Brossart scoring is a hit and in the 4th the ball hit to short and was bobbled that is also considered a hit in the eyes of Brossart scoring. Everyone is hip to the ridiculous and fraudulent scoring tactics of Brossart softball. Brossart does a great injustice to it's players by inflating the numbers of these girls. While they are to be commended for the victory, and they did play a very good game, blatant errors ARE NOT HITS. Remember all of NKY knows "the books are cooked" for Brossart softball.

Lawnboy must have been doing the grass. Actually NCC called the stats in for this one. Brossart just keeping winning. There is a lot of cooking but not from Brossart

Brossart is not the only team that has trouble keeping the book, I read the box scores after every game and they never seem to match up with what I see. I think everyone is going to give there players the benefit on close plays but what teams can't do is give kids a hit when it is clearly an error or even for that matter a routine fielder's choice (I saw that the other day as well). It would be great if all the books were kept the same that way it would mean more when the stats are posted.

It still is amazing that all the players from BBHS always having such amamzing stats that most do not make it to the next level??? With stats like they have I would think there would be a good number playing in college with the schedule they play. 20 win seasons should get these girls noticed. It works for our good buddy Mac W. in Harrison Co.

Not sure anyone can get to the next level through high school ball anymore. You have to play on a high level travel team if you want to get noticed by college coaches.

Brossart has two about to sign right now. In many cases, Brossart excels in STUDENT/Athletes who many times take Academic Scholarships to college because of Brossart's High Academic Standing (23.4 average ACT). They choose to move on in their life to what will eventually pay the bills and provide a great life. Brossart prepares them for life after athletics. Sports don't last forever. One case in point was Gabe Enzweiler who turned down a soccer scholarship to the University of Cincinnati because she realized the time commitment would be tough to excel in her ultimate goals. Brossart is very proud of those who ultimately realize Academics is what it really is all about in the end.

That is great, where to? My guess is they have an offer through their summer teams more so than Brassart.

Soccer and softball are a lot alike as in they only receive 12 scholarships D1 level (7.5 for D2) and most teams have to divide that money up. Most kids do not recieve a full athletic scholarships but they can combine athletic and academic money to get close to getting college paid for.

Have no clue about the Enzweiler girl but I would guess VERY few kids turn down academic money. Good for her if she choose to pursue other goals. I would think most college athletes go on to be fairly successfully after college because of all the advantages they receive while in school.

Good post. I think this happens at many schools. Many athletes realize that college athletics won't pay their bills and they focus on academics. That doesn't take away from their high school accomplishments. You don't have to play college ball to be a success.
