April 11, 201115 yr I vote that the Cowboy doesn't talk any more about Massett's "stuff" until he starts throwing strikes. Who's with me?
April 11, 201115 yr Author I vote that the Cowboy doesn't talk any more about Massett's "stuff" until he starts throwing strikes. Who's with me? I vote Clyde can't talk about Masset until he spells his name right. Who's with me?:lol: Seriously, Masset having the same trouble he had at the beginning of last year. When he can't throw his breaking pitches for strikes he struggles, and that's what we're seeing right now.

I am getting tired of "hearing" how great his stuff is. I need to see it on a consistent basis.

ERA in the last 3 years... 2.37 3.40 3.00 - Before today obviously Seems pretty decent to me. Just like last year he is off to a bad start he will get it figured out. Last 3 years Pre All-Star ERA is 3.67 Post All- Star ERA is 2.63 Last 3 years April ERA is 6.54 After that only 1 month over 3.00

I'd also point out that citing ERAs for a reliever does nothing . ERAs only have some validity with starters.

What relief pitches don't we get frustrated with sometime during the season. You took up for LaRussa the other day going off on the reporters after 1 week, but yet you want to criticize Masset after 1 week. What's the difference?

April 11, 201115 yr Author Masset's on my team. Are you talking about the Reds, or your fantasy team? Either way, I would still consider Masset a pretty consistent pitcher.
April 11, 201115 yr Are you talking about the Reds, or your fantasy team? Either way, I would still consider Masset a pretty consistent pitcher. I don't do fantasy. As I said, I'm a fan of his. I just need him to start getting people out regardless if they're his runs or not.
April 11, 201115 yr Author I don't do fantasy. As I said, I'm a fan of his. I just need him to start getting people out regardless if they're his runs or not. And I believe he has done that on a consistent basis over the years. Do you have numbers that state otherwise?
April 11, 201115 yr I guess bottom line is they need to start getting more innings from their starters. The bullpen is already being overused and it's only the 2nd week of the season. Here is what they got from their starters this week and the relief work. You can see the relief pitchers are pitching every other day and Cordero is getting very few save opportunities. Tuesday Leake 6.0 inn 94 pitches Smith 2.0 inn 27 pitches Maloney 1.0 inn 10 pitches Wednesday Volquez 5.0 inn 99 pitches Ondrusek 1.0 inn 13 pitches Chapman 1.0 inn 23 pitches Bray 1.0 inn 13 pitches Cordero 1.0 inn 19 pitches Thursday Lecure 5.0 inn 84 pitches Smith 2.0 inn 19 pitches Massett 2.0 inn 33 pitches Friday Wood 5.0 inn 77 pitches Ondrusek 1.0 inn 12 pitches Maloney 1.2 inn 40 pitches Bray .1 inn 5 pitches Saturday Arroyo 6.0 inn 94 pitches Bray 1.0 inn 17 pitches Chapman 1.0 inn 10 pitches Sunday Leake 4.2 inn 87 pitches Smith .1 inn 3 pitches Ondrusek 1.0 inn 18 pitches Chapman 1.0 inn 24 pitches Massett 1.0 inn 27 pitches
April 11, 201115 yr And I believe he has done that on a consistent basis over the years. Do you have numbers that state otherwise? I'm a "this year" guy. I have full confidence in him. He's simply frustrating with his walks.
