Just For Fun, I Ranked the Republican Candidates

Featured Replies

Ultimately, it won't matter, because Barry & Company are going to steamroll the Republican nominee, whomever that may be.

I think it's way too early to make such a proclamation.

I find Mitch Daniels interesting. He likes to brag about lower than average unemployment and all of the infrastructure construction he has done while keeping a balanced budget. Funny thing though, he sold the states toll roads (essentially taking future revenue now, sounds lot like borrowing against the future) and has run around the state giving out highway projects. Almost sounds like stimulus spending.

I thought the state was losing money each year on the roll roads???

Seems like it was, at least on some sections. The lease is for 75 years? and IN received about 4 billion which it has used on highway projects. Don't know what the numbers are but it looks like a pretty sound idea.

There are only three possibilities. First is that the toll roads were generating enough rvenue that the tolls are able to finance repairs, profit and debt service on 4 billion dollars. Second, that the state was so bad at running the roads that they couldn't run them at a profit, in which case the management governor should have cleaned that up. Third, the private company will raise the tolls to make the money, an option that was open to the state if they had the political will. If there was 4 billion dollars available the state gave away futre revenue so a governor could run around the stae giving away highway projects.

Don't remember the details but option B was the most likely-state was so bad they couldn't run them at a profit. It wouldn't be the first time or the last that that has happened. Maybe they couldn't clean it up themselves because they were stuck in oppressive union contracts.

Now, they have money to upgrade infrastructure, create jobs doing so, and ditch a loss center.

I'm sure it is, but I've been saying it since forever. It all has to do with my belief that America prefers style over substance; and there's no Republican on the horizon with as much style as the White House's current occupant.

Style may have a place when neither candidate has a record as POTUS but that's no longer the case.

Nice job Habib. For someone who hasn't kept up with the news cycle recently, this was very informative. Thanks.

Since TV came into the equation, we've always elected the candidate with more personality. I don't see any Republican beating Obama in that category.

I agree totally.

Former Louisiana politician Buddy Roemer is announcing he's forming an exploratory committee and entering the race for the Republic nomination. He's hardly known, capping donations at $100 a person, and is already drawing the a form of the "crazy" label as a quixotic outsider. I would say he's already been written off, at least by the media. I'm tempted to do the same, but I actually wouldn't be surprised to see him play a significant factor in the race. Funding will hamstring him, but outside of the strident anti-Obama rhetoric, his views and perspectives are actually far more in line with the Tea Party movement than essentially any of the other candidates.

Haley Barbour announced he will not be running. Smart move.

That's good news for Mitch Daniels if he decides to run. It will be interesting to see where Barbour's donors go.

Given the money and effort required to run, particularly for someone who hasn't run before, I wonder at what point it will be too late for Daniels to jump into the mix.
