How does McClendon not score in this game?

 

He went 0-4 from the field, 0-2 from three, but he did lead the team in assists and steals with four and three respectively.

Big key to the game was Hightchew's defense on Burger. While in man to man he was in Burger face and phyiscally dominated Burger with his strength and quickness. Burger did not get going until the zone allowed him some freedom from the outside.

Full Box score, minus quarter-by-quarter scoring, which Q already provided. BTW, Holy Cross was the home team in uniform, but the Visitor on the scoreboard. I understand that the top team in the bracket is the home team, but if you are going to have the team wear the home uniforms, then at least be consistent on the scoreboard as well. Do it all one way or all the other is all I am saying.

Notes: Holy Cross never had the lead in this game. There was a tie at 23 with about 1:30 to go in the first half. In the second half, the Indians trailed by one at 27-26 and were down 35-33 midway through the 3rd Quarter. As you can see from the 'Breds shooting performance, they could not have played a better game. They did commit 19 turnovers, but because of their defense, they only allowed 17 points off of turnovers. NCC shot 5-9 from beyond the arc while HC was 5-27. Understatement of the year: Jake Giesler is a tremendous player, but had an "off night" compared to his first game against us. He added 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks in this game and in the last game he had 22 boards, 6 dimes, and 5 rejections in that one. Brian Doyle had 11 rebounds and three steals for the 'Breds. Brady Hightchew had seven assists as well and Michael Beuter had six assists and four steals. As a team NCC had 22 assists on 27 made baskets compared to HC which had 15 assists on 19 makes. Jerry Arlinghaus led Holy Cross with six rebounds, Christian McClendon had four assists and tied Jake Burger for the lead in steals with three. Congratulations to the Thoroughbreds and good luck in the All "A" State Tournament.

I agree with you statman. i don't know if you saw the same game i saw, but Burger pretty much had his way with Hitchew, The stats speak for themselves. I am curiois how many shots Burger took. i felt like he should have shot more because everyone else from HC was having a bad shooting day? Also how many minutes did the HC starters play compared to Newcath starters?

Yeah, you realy have to agree with that one. The Buger kid had his way with Hightchew, and only lost by 30 points??????

Burger played about 24 minutes took 15 shots (see my post on the complete box score above). Hightchew played the whole game minus mop up time about 2:30 left in the game.

So that would be about 28 min. and 11 shots for Hightchew. Watching the first few posestions on the replay pretty much sums up the whole game.

My initial response was to Kentonman and I will say again...I do not see how Hightchew physically dominated Burger.

And that I will agree with. It would be easy for me to say that we just had a bad shooting night. While we missed open shots, NCC's team defense had something to do with that.

Actually it is 18 and they can only play 16 of those, because of duplicate numbers. Hence, the reason why we took a technical foul against Dayton in the first game to get all 18 players into the game. I do not know the reason why so many, except to say that #16, 17 and 18 are probably all good kids and Coach wants to reward them by dressing varsity.

Not sure what game you were watching but the reason NCC went to a zone is because Berger was hurting them when playing man. He had many nice backdoor cuts for layups after Giesler got 2 fouls and couldn't defend as agressively. The turning point of the game was NCC's tough zone and their ability to beat the press at will with easy layups.

You can also add that Zach Ryan was huge with all 16 of his points coming in the second half. Nice game for Zach.
