BGP Girls Top 20 for Jan. 18

Featured Replies

I just took a look at their schedule. I can't speak about the Florida competition and out of state competition doesn't usually count in most in-state polls anyway. Other than that, I only see 1 top 20 KY team played so far and Ryle lost. It also looks as if most of the teams that Ryle beat, that are historically good (LCA/LexCath...etc), have 6-8 losses each. That being said, I may be missing something so I need your help. I'm open-minded so if you show me the numbers/proof of a brutal schedule...I'll certainly buy-in to it (I'm a visual guy).

FTR...historically, NKY rarely gets respect from these polls. It just so happens that some high profile players have helped draw some attention.

I just looked on Richerds and noticed that while Ryle is 0-1 against the Top 20(5 point loss to Sacred Heart) Marion County is 0-2 and Boone is 1-1.

I agree with WVFrank, if Marion is hitting on all cylinders they are the best team in Kentucky.

I'm offering my help in taking off the Raider-Hater glasses

I've looked at all of the ranked teams schedules , either the BGP rankings or the Courier- Journals and I have yet to find a team who has payed a better schedule. Boone beat Marion Co. in Lexington and while that is an impressive win they lost ugly to 2 Cincinnati Schools. Ryle lost ugly to Colerain.

Try the #1 team Manual. 3-1 vs. the BGP Top 20.

#3 Mercy is 4-1 vs. the Top 20

#4 Sacred Heart is 2-2 vs. the Top 20, including a win over Ryle

Ryle is 0-1 vs. the Top 20.

I don't see the E'Towns, Rockcastle County, Mercy, Sacred Heart playing anyone of the 3 teams Ryle played in Florida winning 2 out of 3. But. as a lot of people have stated, other than bragging rights for their crazy fans, like me , they don't mean squat. The only teams that are remembered are the ones who go to Diddle. As it should be.

Ryle beat Community School of Florida by 5. Marion County beat the same team by 14. That's just one common out of state opponent.

As far as schedule strength, here is the avg. Lit Ratings of the wins by teams in the BGP Top 11 this week.

94.1 Mercy

92.3 Manual

87.6 Boone County

85.0 Sacred Heart

82.9 Scott County

82.2 Rockcastle County

81.3 Ryle

79.4 Marion County

77.8 Madison Central

76.4 Bowling Green

72.0 Perry Central

That's six teams that I count with a stronger schedule than Ryle.

That one eye patch must be rose colored. It don't hide all of the truth just half of it. Not kicking on Ryle they have an awesome team and are capable of beating anyone however the tough schedule drum is not worth beating. If you look at the other top 10 teams they average some 6 or 8 games aganist top 20 teams. And concerning NCC06 he/she might have that other eye patch on. Beating Boone, NCC, NDA and St. Henry get you a birth in the top 10? That Ohio River water getting tainted with pharmaceuticals?

The only undefeated team in the state are the Lady Camels of Campbell County.

I was not saying that you earn a birth into the top 10 but that then you can start talking about being a top 10 team in the state.

Campbell County has not played any great competition this year, their schedule is very weak.

I want to thank all of you for your opinions and feedback on this thread. This is the kind of thought provoking and reactive responses I love on BGP. I just figure if I keep making enough noise about my Lady Raiders more people will take notice. I love my girls but I know they have a long way to go (Diddle). I also think that girls basketball, in Kentucky, is ready to step out and be noticed on a broader level thanks to the Boone's , Marion Co.'s, Mercy, and Manuals leading the way.

OH by the way chshockey, YOUR research of Marion Co. not very good...You said they were 0-2 vs. Top 20 Teams...I guess they didn't beat Scott Co. and Madison Central...LOOK IT UP!!!!

We will have a more complete picture of Rockcastle in a couple of weeks.

They have only played two top 20 teams so far, beating #7 Scott Co by 25.

(How do your teams compare against that common opponent?)

And they beat #17 Clay Co by 9 at Manchester.

(Some of you may know what playing playing in Clay Co is like!)

But they have these games on their schedule before tourney time.

Franklin Co just out of top 20

Madison Central #8

Bryan Station #15

Elizabethtown #13

Eastern KY schools experience the same lack of respect from the big city papers that some of the NKY schools do.

Diddle should be really great this year.

Agree Shock it is all fun. Thanks for waking us up as the season heats up. I agree with the girls bball in ky. Good luck down the stretch and i hope you beat everyone but my team but that could not happen unless it is at Diddle and if so i am a happy camper!!!
