January 19, 201115 yr If a kid is intent on not going to school the fact that the bus drops him/her off on school property doesn't ensure he/she walks through the doors. If there was a direct link between school bus transportation and attendance then we'd ban kids from driving themselves. If a kid is intent on not going to school, (s)he won't get on the bus in the first place. From what I've seen, most schools have bus monitors making sure the kids go to school once they're dropped off right at the doors. Granted, there's nothing really stopping one of them from just walking off, but the monitor can at least report it to the truancy officer.
January 19, 201115 yr Jim in case you missed it: The purpose of starting the thread was to ask, why do we provide transportation for kids who live within one mile of school? Do you really think that is a good idea? I don't know that it's a good idea, but I don't really have a better one other than executing all of the stupid people in the US and/or somehow preventing them from procreating. It might take a while, but it would eventually rid us of most of our country's ills -- not just education.

January 19, 201115 yr Huh? I was making the point that while it doesn't necessarily make sense to bus kids who live that close to school, there really isn't a better way of ensuring they get there if they don't want to go if they don't care enough about themselves to better themselves through education.

January 24, 201115 yr I think that if a parent wants to have a bus to pick up their child to go to school they should have to pay for it . No Free busing .
January 24, 201115 yr Not sure where you are from, but the West Chester area (Lakota district) is nowhere like most areas in NKY, A LOT of traffic as well. I would rather kids, no matter the age, take a bus to school Vs walking in dangerous areas or driving to school. Lakota, as you can see by the amount of kids effected, is a huge district. How about area in KY? What about Boone Co? Or Campbell Co? Do kids within 2 miles of those county schools have to find a way to school or do they take a bus?
