Can a man in motion move forward before the snap? I thought lateral or backwards motion was permitted but not forward. RB for St.X tonight was moving forward every time when in motion tonight and it was never flagged. (So I'm assuming I am wrong in my thinking). THX

If he is set behind the line of scrimmage, he can move forward. Must be set and then reset before snap.

You cant move forward at the snap as I understand it...but, for example, a running back can move forward to get to where he is going. IE... lets say you are in shotgun with the back to your side. He can move forward towards the line before splitting out wide.

He CANNOT be moving forward at snap.

You are correct - IMHO.

the man in motion must be parallel to the LOS and at the snap he can then turn up the field . If he is in the backfield and set he can move but must reset in the backfield before the snap
