November 17, 201015 yr Author You better hope that's the case if they are planning on upgrading their offense at all. They have 89 million committed to only 11 players. That's only about 5 million less than payroll all of last year. The remaining 14 players on the roster would have to be making roughly 400k to be in the same position they were last year. If they're going to upgrade at all, they're looking at a payroll of around 104 million They'll be fine, I trust the guys in the FO know what they can spend.
November 17, 201015 yr The Cardinals have Albert Pujols, Matt Holliday, and Colby Rasmus to be their power bats. They don't need someone to hit 30+ HR's, just a solid player and that's what Freese is. I don't see why St. Louis fans think we need another Albert Pujols to win this division. They were a 3rd baseman away from winning the central last year. They were a couple bats away from winning the Central last year. The division is only going to get better. It's going to be pretty hard for it to get any worse. Had St. Louis taken care of business against Pittsburg, Houston, Chicago and the Brewers they would have ran away with the division. They couldn't beat the teams they were supposed to beat. St. Louis either needs another power bat, or guys that can get on base infront of the three you mentioned. Their role players were far from solid. There's no reason to think it'll be much better unless theres a major upgrade. I think St. Louis will have a very difficult time signing Uribe/Tejada just because they were so valuable to their pervious teams.

For much of the second half of the season, they had four dead spots in the lineup. It doesn't matter what Pujols, Holliday and Rasmus do if they don't find a way to get some offense from some other positions.

I read an article the other day that was talking about how important Ryan's glove was to the Cardinals defense and their pitchers, who all pitch to contact. Reading it made me wonder if they should maybe look elsewhere to upgrade the offense. Ryan might be the best fielding SS in all of baseball. Tough decisions lay ahead for Mo.

Carpenter disagrees with whatever article that is.
November 19, 201015 yr Author Carpenter disagrees with whatever article that is. :lol:Carpenter might end up in a mental hospital if his middle infield is Uribe and Schumaker...
November 29, 201015 yr Author Well, St. Louis lost out on Uribe. Better hope for Tejada. Yeah, I saw that. Uribe was probably the best offensive option, but his defense isn't the best. Dodgers certainly have been busy.
November 30, 201015 yr Cardinals acquired Ryan Theriot today for Blake Hawksworth. Not much of an upgrade over what they already had, IMO. But more power to them for trying.
December 1, 201015 yr Cardinals acquired Ryan Theriot today for Blake Hawksworth. Not much of an upgrade over what they already had, IMO. But more power to them for trying. Wonder if he'll play second or short?
December 1, 201015 yr Cardinals lost out on Tejada too. Doesn't look like they'll be doing much this offseason to upgrade either.

December 1, 201015 yr Author Cardinals lost out on Tejada too. Doesn't look like they'll be doing much this offseason to upgrade either. It's going to come through trade probably... I'd say Hardy or sign Hudson. Wonder if Drew is still off the market? Settle down man the winter meetings haven't even started yet?

I don't see Hardy getting traded. The Twins want the guy from Japan to play 2B, not SS. Hudson could happen though...
