Look at the KHSAA Tournament Rules from the handbook

See (I)(D)(3) on page 2 of that link.

Unless one team has beaten the other two (rare) then each team gets to choose 4 teams that they have beaten (no counting the two teams they are tied with).

Then they get one point for each win by each of those 4 teams they have defeated.

The highest point total gets 1st place, second highest gets 2nd place, and so on.

No doesn't matter at all, you can count wins over out of state teams, and you can also count district wins. You just cannot count wins over any of the 3 teams involved in the tie breaker.

Lets assume Paintsville, Pikeville and Betsy Layne each end up with 4-1 district records and end in a 3 way tie.

Also assume each of those teams had the following wins over teams with the following records:

Betsy Layne

Burch WV (3-7)

Phelps (2-8)

Paintsville (4-6)

South Floyd (3-7)

Jackson Co (0-10)

Allen Central (3-7)

Jenkins (0-10)

Pikeville

Boyd County (1-9)

Phelps (2-8)

Allen Central (3-7)

South Floyd (3-7)

Betsy Layne (7-3)

Paintsville

South Floyd (3-7)

Allen Central (3-7)

Phelps (2-8)

Pikeville (5-5)

Fairview (7-3)

Each team can count 4 wins in the tie breaker, but they cannot count wins against any of the 3 teams involved in the tie. So the tie breaker would go like this...

Betsy Layne: Burch (3), Phelps (2), South Floyd (3), Allen Central (3): Total (11)

Pikeville: Boyd Co (1), Phelps (2), South Floyd (3), Allen Central (3): Total (9)

Paintsville: South Floyd (3), Allen Central (3), Phelps (2), Fairview (7): Total (15)

In this example, Paintsville would finish in 1st place, Betsy Layne in 2nd place and Pikeville in 3rd Place.

I predict we'll see this in the NKY 6A district this year. If so, Boone's early success against Henry Clay and Scott County will put them in the #4 spot.

In order for that to come into play, you are assuming that Cooper will beat Conner at Conner the last game of the season on Sr. night. Sorry, don't see that happening. Conner controls their own destiny, correct?

You're right. I missed the part about "it could." IF it does THEN Boone goes.

Hopefully, the Cougars take care of business. However, I am concerned.

No concerns here. Conner will provide a nice, warm welcome to their new 5A rivals.
