November 3, 201015 yr Of course bowhunting is harder, so what. That's not what you said when you started the thread. You made the statement that bowhunters are the only true hunters. What's harder, bowhunting or spear hunting? spear hunting or using a sling to throw rocks at them? You make a good point, woods, but I think the only true way to hunt is to dig a trap pit, line the bottom with sharpened sticks and punjis, cover it over with branches and leaves, and wait for your quarry to fall to its doom. There's true sport for you.

November 3, 201015 yr Author :thumb::thumb:Great post Country Boy, you "get it" (what the outdoor lifestyle is really all about). Now, to a certain hunter/hunters that I have to say that I love your enthusiasm about bowhunting but I suggest you and no doubt too many others read this post very carefully, this is what hunting is all about. Love of the sport, traditions, family and good friends together. Trust me, a person will value those times long after his hunting days may be gone. I speak from very personal experience with my disease along with missing those times many years ago with my father who passed on to me a love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. I hear ya Rambler. You're alright in my book. I succumb to your wisdom and admit I shouldn't knock gun hunting.

What's harder, bowhunting or spear hunting? spear hunting or using a sling to throw rocks at them? This one along with some other post reminds me of a one of my favorite lines by one of my favorite "professional" hunters Ben Lee. Ben was a great bowhunter and one of the first ones to start putting out bow hunting videos along with people like Gene and Barry Wenzel after the legendary Fred Bear. Ben Lee was just an ol' country boy from Alabama and had a great wit about him. On one of his tapes he was expressing his love of deer hunting with all weapons. His statement went something like " I love deer hunting. I'll hunt them with a bow, crossbow, rifle, shotgun, pistol, flintlock just any way. Heck, if they open up a rock season I'll go to chunkin' rocks at em'".

I believe he used a creek bed to sneak up on them. That video had to be late 80's/early 90's.
