The sandbagging is over. X is the favorite in this game. Don't get it twisted. Now, if X somehow falters, and collapses to a loss, we can re-evaluate at that time.

We are not number one in the polls and are not blessed with all the talent and the best team we have ever had only to be surpassed by next years team as Kentucky's undisputed number one team is. The Bulldogs are as especially excited about the game and the impending and overwhelming chance to win this year. It has been a few years since these teams have lined up against each other and if memory serves me correct Male has had the best of it recently. Oh the Tigers will be there and give it their best and possibly, just possibly may escape with a victory.

Alan, I get the sarcasm...but c'mon, we play Male every year, barring natural disasters, and they haven't beat us since they had Doug Beaumont.

But last year Cincy St. X beat Louisville St. X by a few scores, and it didn't seem to hurt the Tiger's ability to win the other 14 games they played and capture the 6A title.

Ok, Ok, St. Xavier might win this game. But with all the talk in Jefferson County about new coaches, D-1 prospects, equalization, and near defeats, what is a fan of a big private school suppose to think these days. :idunno:

X over H 35-6. X's defense is apparently pretty darn good, better than T's by the admission of a fellow X fan who has seen them both play. While I have not seen X yet this year, i hear that their offense just isn't clicking yet and has had some injuries. Regardless, this Male team is NOT comparable to the Male teams 5-10 years ago IMHO, and the offense that H will put out there tonight will be light years behind what X saw in Cincy last week.

X wins this by 10 (at a minimum)....................

Alan60 is really not sandbagging when he says that that there is definitely the possibility that Male beats St. X. tonight. The Tigers have nowhere near the depth of talent (numbers-yes, talent-no) nor the offensive leadership, line play and firepower that they had in 2007, 2008, and 2009. In addition, there is a large dropoff in the kicking and punting game which has been a staple linchpin of Tiger success for years. Until these issues are resolved (and I'm not so sure the personel is on the roster to resolve them), the Tigers will have to rely on their defense and playing disciplined, mistake-free ball.

 

On the other hand, Male's offense is clicking in high gear behind speedsters Giddens and Morris. The biggest factor in Male's improvement is the defensive change that Coach Wolfe has brought with him. No longer do the Bulldogs run that 10-men-in-the-box, one-on-one-press-coverage defense, which gave up all the points to simple quick trap plays or deep fly pattern plays. Male is making everyone work hard for their points this season.

 

I have picked St. X. to win in a close low-scoring contest, which will look nothing like the Tigers 62-21 victory last year.
