Who wins? The Colonels are coming off a BIG rebound win against Lex Cath, and LaSalle is fresh off of their sound 28-6 victory over Lakota West in the second week of the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown this past weekend at Nippert.

It's been a competitive matchup in past years, including last year's 44-35 game won by the Lancers, and LaSalle leads the series 3 games to 1.

I'll take LaSalle in this one, even though I hope my Colonels can eek this one out. LaSalle looked big and fast at Nippert- the two things that are deadly for NKY football teams crossing the river.

Cov Cath will continue to get better, but I will be pleasantly surprised if they pull this one out. LaSalle has one of their better teams in the last few years with several legit D1 recruits. They could be one of the top 6-7 teams in Greater Cincinnati and yet finish 3rd or 4th in their conference. Cov Cath will be better prepared for this one then they were for Ryle, but IMO LaSalle is a small step ahead of Ryle. They have that combination you hate to face, speed and size.

Am I the only one that would not be surprised by any outcome? I could really see just about anything happening in this one- a blowout either way or a close game either way. I would have picked Lex Cath to beat LaSalle before the season started, so I guess I should pick Cov Cath, but that first game is hard to ignore. I have NO idea what will happen, but I will root for good football and a Kentucky victory!

Tough game for Covington Catholic come Friday night but I think the Colonels will be up to the task to give the Lancers a game and indeed pull the upset.

This is the third game in a row for CovCath that they were considered the underdog!

BTW, LaSalle has moved up to the #4 spot in the Cincinnati Enquirer high school football poll behind:

1. Colerain

2. Cincinnati Elder

3. Cincinnati Moeller

4. Cincinnati LaSalle

5. Middletown

To become the best, you need to play the best!

You are probably the only one who would not be surprised by a CCH blowout win. I don't think anyone believes that could happen. Unfortunately for CCH, this is one of the best LaSalle teams in recent years. I don't know if it will be another Ryle like beating, but I am afraid CCH is in for at least a 2 TD loss.

Just a personal note...I hate this saying. It's completely false and has nothing to do with improving as a team.

Sorry had to get that off my shoulders.

GO COLONELS!!!

Sorry, but if you want to have a great (non district) record of 7-0, sure go right ahead and play a weak schedule but playing in the NKy District that CovCath is in, it won't help you one bit to get ready for Dixie or HHS!

I believe a few years ago Conner had some great non District records but as soon as they got into the playoffs, out they would go because they weren't used to playing top flight teams!

This isn't Ohio where your season record get you into the playoffs but Kentucky where your non district record means nothing!

Nonsense and poppycock to bold underline above.

Conner got bounced because they weren't very good. They got bounced because they weren't strong enough or fast enough to beat the team they lost to. It had absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO THEY PLAYED IN THE BEGINNING OF SEPTEMBER. That's my point.

You are who you are. You either have the jimmy's and joe's, or you don't. If Conner had played Highlands, Beechwood, Trinity, St. Xavier, CovCath, Colerain and Elder in their 7 non-conference games that year, are you suggesting they would have been better prepared for the playoffs and would have fared better?

I contend they would have been beat up, exhausted and had an even less likely chance of winning come playoff time.

Schedule smart...not dumb. There is no point in playing teams you have no chance to beat. Destroys team morale and could get someone seriously hurt.
