The #10 ranked 1A team lost 42-6 on their home field to the #9 3A team Friday so I don't think that is accurate at all. Mayfield is certainly capable of beating anyone in 3A.

If you match the teams up 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2 etc I think 3A goes at least 7-3. I think Somerset beats anyone in the 1A top 6 handily. The only team I would pick against Somerset is Mayfield. Of course I think the Jumpes are underrated in this poll to begin with.

Let's match up some of the 1A vs. 3A results from this weekend.

 

1A #7 Campbellsville lost to 3A #12 Breathitt Co. 16-6..........not good for 1A

1A #9 Fairview squeaks by 3A #25 West Carter 16-13 in OT.....even though it's a win, still not to good for 1A's case

1A #10 Lynn Camp looses big to 3A #9 Somerset 42-6.........Not good for 1A

 

1A #5 Louisville Holy Cross beats 3A #13 Henry Co 54-24.......the one good result for 1A

 

So like I said before......comparing the 2 classes now, I believe 3A is better

I agree with this statement and I think it is very possible the top 4 1A schools could do this. But, I would also take Somerset over anyone in 1A other than Mayfield.

You are missing the argument. Every time someone gets in a conversation about this kind of topic, someone asks "Have you seen them play". No one has seen everyone play. If you think 3A is strong, fine, 3A is strong. But, don't expect everyone to agree with that. It is a common belief among people who follow football in the state that 3A (The old 2A) is the weakest class in the sport.

3A is weak, very weak. And, as we have shown in this thread, can be "arguably" the worst class in football for the second consecutive year. There is no doubt 2A is better than 3A, but until there have been more games played I can't say that 1A is better than 3A. As of week #1, 3A is ahead of 1A. That may change as the season moves along.
