August 20, 201016 yr Anybody want to take a Bama vs. the Field bet for the BCS Title? If I get the field...
August 20, 201016 yr Author If I get the field... No way. I think Bama is the best team in the country, but I'd almost guarantee they won't win the championship this year. I think it's just too tough to repeat.
August 20, 201016 yr Anybody want to take a Bama vs. the Field bet for the BCS Title? The only "vs. the field" bets I would have ever taken at the start of a season were UNLV '91 and UK '96. 50% on those. UNC from a couple of years ago I would have considered. I honestly can't think of any others I would've taken.
August 20, 201016 yr Author I would have taken the '02 Canes or the USC team that was going to repeat and lost to Texas. I would have lost the house on those though.

I would have lost the house on those though. :thumb: I also would have taken the UNLV team that lost to Duke. But, not '96 UK. That team was great in hindsight, but they had a lot of new faces, so they wouldn't have warranted that much confidence to open the season, IMO. In all honesty, I don't know if I'd ever take one team vs. the field.
August 20, 201016 yr Cats, we get by our first four and we are unbeaten, then our D jells...look out. But I know football (OK, No wise guys/gals comments) and I agree it so hard to repeat. Back in the late 70s we won 30 something in a row, then lost at Mississipi State and we fumbled going in for a late TD. Lost 6-3...there was 6-3 all over the place where I worked. So losing a game will not surprise me, but I do know Coach Saban plays one at a time and Mark might be third string. We might have to beat the Gators twice, very hard also and then Ohio State looks very good and a weak conference for them. Texas can be real mad if we play them. Now, we could lose our QB and that changes everything like for any school, but thats football.

August 20, 201016 yr OK, to be honest I don't follow them too much, it was always the Big two and small eight, and now one of the Big two is down. Who else is decent and it is preseason? Penn State I hear lost a lot.

Florida will be tough, beating them twice may be impossible even for a great team considering Bama beat them last year. Like I said earlier, I just can't imagine Meyer getting beat 3 times in a row. Auburn will also be tough, they had a great game plan for Bama last year. Then you have LSU who always plays them tough, and the rest of the SEC taking aim at them I think they lose at least 1 game this year, but I'd personally bet on two games. Ohio State in a weak conference? I think it's better at the top than the SEC and that is all title contenders should really worry about because they should beat the lower tier teams in their conference.

The Big Ten definitely has more good teams it seems...four that won 10 games last year. If Penn State can knock off 'Bama in Tuscaloosa on September 11 it would be a big boost. It might also mark 9/11 as a day of infamy in Alabama.
August 20, 201016 yr 5, you forgot about Central Florida/Louisana Monroe/Southern Miss/Louisana Tech.
August 24, 201016 yr I would rank it like this: SEC EAST: 1. Florida 2. Georgia 3. South Carolina 4. Kentucky 5. Tennessee 6. Vanderbilt. SEC WEST: 1. Alabama 2. Auburn 3. Arkansas 4. LSU 5. Mississippi State 6. Ole Miss SEC Title Game: Alabama vs. Florida III Bowl Teams: Alabama (BCS Bowl), Florida (BCS Bowl), Auburn, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, Mississippi State.

August 24, 201016 yr I think the Big 10 may be the toughest conference in America this year. It may be. I'll stick with the SEC though.
