10th Region Volleyball

Featured Replies

Will the 10th Region team list grow or stay the same. I heard that Mason Co is adding a volleyball program.

True?

According to the KHSAA website, Mason Co. will have a volleyball team competing in the 10th Region.

In 2010, 10th Region will still be ruled by NCC, Highlands, Campbell County and Bishop Brossart (in that order).

Really?? Don't count out GRC. Hired a new coach last year and they went from the cellar to a 18-9 record and won our district. Look for them to make some noise this year.

Campbell will be one Maybelle says and the other three is a frog strangler fight to the end

“About two or three years ago there were some talks about starting up a program,” Fraysure said. “We held some skills clinics two years ago and we played in the winter Sports of All Sorts League in Florence last year. This year the plan was to implement freshmen and junior varsity programs with next year adding varsity to the mix.”

Mason County’s plans do not end with just a varsity program. Fraysure also hopes to start the sport in the middle school this spring as well. The hitch is finding someone to coach the team, since she already serves as Mason County’s varsity softball coach.

Despite their newness to the sport, the Lady Royals may be able to count an experienced lineup as one of their strong points when they take to the court for their first varsity matches next fall. One reason is that the players who participated in last year’s Sports of All Sorts League all return.

“The oldest players we have will be juniors next year,” Fraysure said. “So, we should have a group that will play together for at least two years on the varsity level.”

According to Fraysure, the Lady Royals will move into the 38th District next fall with Harrison County, Bracken County, Deming, Augusta and St. Patrick.

This article was first published last September, been a long time coming. Glad to see the Royals moving forward with the program.

Campbell lost a great coach and Natalie Penrod who carried that team, not to mention two other seniors that were very steady players. NCC has a very strong group right now, and I don't see anyone in the region stopping them for the next two years.

NCC lost a Great Coach also and wont recover totally. Where did Campbell's coach go? What happened?

Better late than never. Always a mystery to me how Mason County couldn't/wouldn't field a team while all the surrounding schools did.

Campbell's coach will be teaching and coaching in Ohio. Coach Fleissner was the JV coach at NCC for over 15 years before Coach Mertle retired. So, she was able to continue the consistency. It is June 6 and i have not heard that Campbell has hired a coach. Not good with only a month until the season starts.

In Coach Mertle's last year NCC won the 10th and lost in the State Semi-finals , In Coach Fleissner's first year they again won the 10th and again lost in the State Semi-finals . I think that they recovered quite well . In fact you might say that there was no recovery necessary , they just kept on going where they left off .

Is anyone left at Campbell in any sport? Someone at barleycorns last night said Highlands Coach may be going there.

I remember you telling me when we talked at a Royals game how your daughter was upset that there wasn't a team since she really wanted to play while she was at Mason County. I had no idea until you told me that it was something the school never pursued for whatever reason.

Is the Fieldhouse setup for volleyball or will they have to cut and core holes in the basketball floor to support the net (nets ) ?

They will probably move it down to the ole pit in Maysville where my Daddy used to run the floor. Big Riverdog played for Maysville High in the 1960's. Did I tell you Maybelle was a cheerleader? They play the basketball games there for the girls. That makes Maybelle and peaches mad they think they should play both at the big place. I get chills thinking about Daddy Cletus hitting those two foot jumpers in the closing minutes when he got in. Usually we were up by 40 or so and he was like Fransican Corderos. He'd kinda be the closer after everyone else had played. He pitched too. He holds record for longest home run allowed. Started in 1964 and the thingee hasnt landed yet
