The facilities, organization, and people of Harrison County were top notch. They put on a great meet. Every running event started exactly on time!! Now we can just work on getting a four lane road from I-75....

 

Very impressive performance by the girls from Highlands and the boys from CovCath. Very strong teams that seem to be peaking at the right time.

 

Just a few of the highlights:

 

1) paNDA on site with camera. You know it is going to be a great day.

2) Lloyds lady discuss thrower. Great job. Lashawn Ford ?

3) Lloyd's girls 3200 meter winner. Torey Duncan

4) Lloyd's Boys pole vaulter. Charles Johnson

5) CovCath's Steven Rhue sets a PR in the hight jump and qualifies for state

6)Western Hills boys discuss thrower

7) CovCath 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

8) Collinsworth from Highlands girls is a stud. Their boys team needs her running for them

9)Erpenbeck & Deglow from CovCath qualifiing for state.

 

And the most inspired performance of the day was actually caught by paNDA's all seeing eye.

 

10) CovCath's hero of the 2009 State Meet, Mr. Paul Cusick falling at the end of the 300m hurdles and having the presence of mind to get up, finish, and still have a decent time.

 

King Louie, I did not see you there but I do hope you'll be able to make the meet on Thursday.

I did forget two highlights:

 

CovCath's Ryan Cahill and Cubby Connelly are back-to-back Regional champs in the triple jump and high jump, respectively

 

My heart goes out the Western Hills 4x400 relay team. They were putting up a great race battling for the second place slot when the anchor runner's hand hit another runner in the pack and it sent the baton flying into the infield.

 

Again, great job Harrison County.

Also, Bowdy and Maschinot from Cov Cath going 1 and 2 in the long jump.

It was almost impossible to get a decent view of the long jump and triple jump.

 

Highlands is in a "rebuilding year". Expectations for this year, compared to some previous years, may have been higher than some runners wanted to take on. As a result, working with some good athletes that hope to build up next year.

 

I spoke to a Lloyd parent and apparently the expectations at Lloyd with Coach Binkley may have been higher than some runners wanted to take on as well.

 

Discipline is a tough pill at times....

In looking at the rosters by school for the state meet, Cov Cath certainly has the numbers (27) to win state, as it looks like the next largest boys contingent is 18. However in looking at the seed times/distances, I would have to say that both Paducah and Central would be favored ahead of the Colonels. One big difference I noticed with this year is, it looks like Central is entering more relays than last year. This could really help them.

Weren't the Highland boys who won state in one relay and did well in a couple others last year all Juniors? You would think that they would want to go back and have a shot to repeat this year.

Yes, they were juniors, but wanted to concentrate on other areas for their future. Rumors on the street are that there are now some that are interested in running next year. (And we'll continue to perpetuate that rumor !!) Hoping to get a better turnout early next year and work it into the overall conditioning program. It was a tough year with mostly Sophomores and Freshman running at the Varsity level.

I understand that and certainly hope that the rumor is true and more guys will come out in the future. It is nice when all the NKY teams are strong.

That is one of the reasons I like the relays - there is a lot more to it than just raw speed and power. The folks really need to work on the hand-off's and perfect the technique. You are right many teams do not seem to work on it too much, or at least not as much as theyh should.
