How did Abeling for Dixie break his leg?

Didn't hear that it was broken. He walked off the field with a bad limp. Sorry to hear it's broken, if that's the case. Grounder to SS and Dixie was trying to turn a double play and Abeling was at 2nd base. Lloyd base runner slid and there was contact. Abeling stayed down (in pain) for quite a while and then walked/limped off with the coaching staff.

He was covering 2nd on a double play attempt and the Lloyd runner came in hard and Cory stayed in there and tried to turn the DP and got taken out by the runner. He actually fractured his femur. Ronnie Winters will be playing 2nd for thr rest of their season.

I hate to hear that about Abeling. They say he's been playing really well.

Need to post the score in the title of the thread. I thought this was an old prediction thread at first.

I hate to hear that about Abeling. They say he's been playing really well.

He's had tough with injuries all season. It's a shame he got hurt during the most important time of the schedule.

High school has rules about legal slides. Where was Abeling when the contact was made?

It was clean. I think Abelings leg was just either too stiff or the kid came in a bit too hard. It wasnt intentionally to break his leg. Its not like the kid went out of the baseline to do it. He went straight into the bag.

Did the runner slide directly to the base and not over the base? High school slide rules are completely different than major league rules. MLB allows you to slide anywhere as long as you can reach the base with your hand. High school requires you to slide directly at the base and not make contact with the runner if he is not in front of the base.

He was receiving the ball from Dematteo on an attempted double play so his foot was on the bag and he fell almost as soon as he caught it.

There must have been a heck of a collision to break a femur.

To be honest it didnt look like a bad collision at all. I thought maybe he just got cleated or at the worst hyperextended his knee.
