I agree and I may offend some, but it takes a much better all around athlete to play softball as opposed to volleyball or soccer.

 

I would agree with you and I do think we have some good athletes playing softball but overall soccer, basketball and volleyball get more of them.

Depends on how you define athleticism.

 

Hand/eye - no question its fastpitch.

 

Jumping/running - vball soccer in many cases.

 

My point is that I see many great "athletes" playing fastpitch. I raised one.

I think it takes more of the skills you mentioned plus the ability to not be afraid of a hard ball being thrown at 50+ mph, ground ball hitting you in the face or sliding in what sometimes is a rock hard field. While speed is not really as necessary in softball it sure does help.
