Clyde, I'm not "bailing" on you, I just hate to get into pointless arguments on the internet. I witnessed it in person, you've watched the iHigh video numerous times, good for both of us. You have to realize, I HATE when people blame referees for losing--in fact it infuriates me 99% of the time. That being said, whether you can see it from the video or not, this game was poorly called. For a game to be so poorly called in a state semi-final game is sad.

 

You will not convince me the refs' behavior at game's end was appropriate. When both teams are left wondering if the game is over, then as the game's leader, you have not adequately done your job. At the very least, if they had conferred with each other and then explained to the coaches that time was out, it would've been a little easier to swallow. After all, if the buzzer sounded and there was no recourse, then that is all they can do. But sprinting off the floor with nary an explanation seemed to be the coward's way out. I understand that in normal situations it is not advisable for refs to hang around after the game, but what you cannot seem to grasp is that it was not a normal ending. The teams, both of them, deserved some closure. How many games have you ever attended where the coaches and teams do not shake hands after the buzzer because they are waiting for absentee referees? Whether you believe it or not, and I am tired of trying to convince you, it was pure and utter confusion.

 

All that being said, the general incompetence of this group was obvious. I can give you several examples, many of which have already been said in this thread. You said you haven't seen any legit complaints yet--what about leaving an ineligible player on the court? What if the front end of a 1 and 1 had been missed? The fouled-out player would have remained on the court. Also, another instance, Michaela Hunter (#31 for Rock) clearly commits a foul. Everyone knows it, but it is assessed to #2 Sydney Arvin. This is fine with the Rock crowd because Hunter already has 3 fouls at that point and I believe Arvin had 0. However, if the roles had been reversed it could have been a major deal.

 

Now on to what I have called the play of the game--the one you admitted was "debatable". The foul on Alexander when the Scott guard threw the ball out of bounds. Maybe Alexander did hit her, who knows? Even if she did, the whistle did not blow until the ball bounced under the basket, even The Courier-Journal article admitted that. At the very least it was an incredibly late whistle that gave the appearance of impropriety and was a pivotal turn in the game.

 

I am tired of arguing this point, the game was last weekend and I'm already looking ahead to my children swimming in their own state championships this weekend. Rarely will you ever hear me complain about officials, but in this case, in my opinion, it is warranted. This game, which I did not have a family member or any real stake in, left me shaking my head. I truly wondered what sort of motivation that referee crew had for making the decisions that they did and I guess we will never know.

As to the late whistle, it may have been. It doesn't change the fact that it was the right call. I get the fact that if you think you've been on the short end of the stick all night you would be suspicious. Again, it doesn't change the fact that it was the right call in the mind of the person with the whistle.

 

As to the wrong person getting the foul , unfortunately it happens.

 

Let me remind you though that you were the one that claimed the officials screwed up the clock at the end and you still haven't given me your thoughts on how much time should have been put on the clock.

 

As to the officials and their exit the "game over" signal was given. However, I will concede that maybe they should have been more demonstrative and signaled it again and again to make it clear and then exit. However, I have a feeling that would not have made any of the Rock faithful any happier. They still wanted time on the clock, right?

 

I watched most of the game. I said the 2nd foul on the big girl was close. I said the late foul was close. I didn't see anything else that I haven't explained ie the timeout instead of the jump ball. Did I miss other bad calls?

It was announced over the loudspeaker, and the scorekeeper gave the five fingers to indicate it was five fouls. The only thing missing was the long buzzer by the clock-keeper.

Thanks. Not saying its right but you get caught up and might not even notice the scorekeeper. The buzzer is what catches your attention.

I was at the game and was totally netural to the outcome. To me the only thing that seemed to occur on the last play was that the refree did not appear to be decisive on the call. However later in the week at my hotel i was approached by one of the refrees who asked me my thoughts on the call and i told him just that. The refree then informed me that they were wearing devices on their belt, (which i did see). These devices were there to stop the clock upon blowing of the whistle. The ref also told that when the whistle blew there was no time on the clock. Therefore game over...Don't shoot the messenger. Now concerning rockcastle team i agree that they were the classiest group of young ladies i have ever seen. My daughter was sitting by my side and i pointed out thier hustle and sportsmanship. The fans of Rockcaslte were quite impressive as well. What i saw was a few of the Scott players making gestures up to the fans as they were walking off the court. Not saying anyting here!!!! I see both sides but as usual there is often two sides. For me personally I think it was great game. I can not "dog" the refs either. Its a tough job but i did feel for the Rock girls but again they are a classy group of young ladies. I hope my daugher carries herself as well!!!! What more can i say?
