The "he missed 20 shots" argument is as lame as it gets. UK did a nice job for 40 minutes making him take tough shots, but in the process over played him and left the rim wide open for easy stick backs time and time again. So while he wasn't making shots, his shot attempts put SC in position to hang around for the little guy to turn it on late. 30 plus a game in SEC play. Yeah. Overrated...

So did he or did he not miss 20 shots? Claiming them as "assists" is a much 'lamer' argument than what you are saying is lame.

So you can't grasp the theory that UK sending a big over to help every time he drove was what created the numbers advantage on the glass for SC? It's Basketball 101...

How about defensive rotation? Talk about Basketball 101...

Poor defensive rotation? Sure. Happened all night that night...

Where did I claim it as an "assist"? I stated exactly what happened on his missed shots that allowed SC to convert said missed shots into 2nd chance points...

Downey has been great for 5 years now.

If John Wall scored 30 on 9-29 and won the game for UK, I highly doubt there would be this much talk about it.... JMO.

Good point, but not for me I'm not much on Monta Ellis-type performances.

And the blame goes to a lack of rebounding... not the guy who misses the shot. Many UK players were caught watching as the ball went up.

If that helps you sleep at night. I've explained it in as simple of terms as possible. It had zero to do with UK players "watching". They sent an extra body at Downey when he drove leading to tougher shots. The result was a numbers advantage on the boards for SC when he missed. But if you want to look the other way on why the game played out like it did, go right ahead...

Nobody is looking the other way. The dude missed 20 shots. UK did a good job of him and a poor job on the boards. It's possible to do both but they got out worked on the weak side glass. That's about as simple as it gets.

They got outworked on the weakside glass because they ran a big at him every time. One less big to rebound, or force him in to tougher shots? It was a strategy that backfired. Very simple indeed...

He's a very good player, I don't really like that he missed 20 shots in one game, but you can't deny that his performance in the last five minutes of Tuesday's game was great.

I usually ignore what you say when Downey is involved because of your man-crush but this time you make some very good points and I agree with you

The SC bigs deserve more recognition than they are getting.

You guys have made his 30 point showing into the worst single game performance in history, so they must have been pretty good...

Not at all, he is incredible. Missing 20 shots in a game is hard to ignore though. Take 29 shots, you better get 30 points. He is who is he is because of what he did in the last five minutes.
