paNDA, It was an interesting game with several changes of momentum. The score was tied 20-20 in the second quarter but LexCath went on a 15-2 run to lead 35-22 at halftime. Ryle came out hot in the third quarter from behind the arc and their defense forced several turnovers to tie the game 47-47 at the end of three quarters. LexCath hit their free throws down the stretch to capture the win. Ryle was in serious foul trouble early as Cheesman and Johnson fouled out and Crittendon and Jump had four fouls each. Crittendon was limited to 15:22 minutes as she picked up her fourth foul with 4:44 left in the third quarter. Ryle scored 28 points off 21 LexCath turnovers in the second half alone. Ryle was called for 22 fouls while LexCath was called for 16 fouls.

A foul can be called in every possession of every game. When the referees decide to go with one team or the other then they take control of the game away from those playing. Not referee bashing, just saying it was pretty obvious last night.

First of all, in no way am I blaming Ryle's loss on officiating. They missed plenty of layups to seal their own fate. There was 3 minutes to go in the first half before a foul was called on Lexington Catholic. At that time there were 7 called on Ryle, with 3 being on Crittendon, forcing her to sit the majority of the first half. It just seemed a little lopsided. Both teams played hard and with great intensity and I congratulate Lex. Cath. on the win.

However Jenna Crittendon and Dawn Johnson each had three fouls and as a result Crittendon only logged 6:30 minutes in the first half and 15:22 for the entire game. I don't know which coach was the most frustrated Coach Oliverio for all the fouls on her key players or Coach Talbott for the turnover fest by LexCath in the second half.

If a player commits 3 fouls in the first half.... shouldn't they be called for 3 fouls?

My question would be what type of game was each team playing? From what I've seen Ryle is more of a jump shooting team versus taking it to the basket. I haven't seen Lex Cath play but if they tend to rely more on their inside play and attack the basket then generally you are going to draw more fouls.

They were not inclined to call ANY fouls on LexCath until the roar of disapproval was so loud they felt they had to start calling it both ways. I asked a Lex Cath official what he thought after the game and his reply was that was how the 9th Region officials treat 11th region teams and that turnabout is fair play. There was a technical foul called on Cheeseman late in the game that resulted in a 6point possession for the Knights. When asked what the player said to get a technical foul and the reply was "I don't know , but I'm sure she said something". I'm just saying I have watched thousands of H.S. games over the years and this could be one of the most lopsided when it comes to questionable and critical timing of some calls.:confused:
