After watching the Owen Co. - Carroll Co. game last night, I understand the 8th region player rankings. Gayheart played an outstanding floor game scoring 16 points, dishing out several assists, and getting her whole team involved. But I was most impressed with her tenacity on defense. I would be interested in knowing how many steals and loose balls she came up with. If she continues to work, it will be interesting to see where she ends up.

I agree with you 100%. She is deserving of her preseason player of the year ranking in the 8th

On another note Carroll played the worst that I have seen this year. The team seemed slow and tired.

 

The fact that it was that close was amazing. Really did not think either team looked as good as they can.

Carroll is a good team and not really that much different than Owen in how they play. If you have watched carroll at all this year you would know they are much better than they played friday night. I think every team has a off night guess this was Carrolls

Well they could have been tired as they played last night as well. I like Carroll's chances when they play well. They are a well rounded team. Owen is tough, as they have good guard play. It will be interesting to watch this game several times this year.

Devine did have an off night shooting...however I am not sure it was due to Gayheart. THere is no excuse ..Carroll did not play their best and lost. However, they will meet several more times so they will all have another chance.

 

For what it is worth I do not think Owen played their best either.. I have watched them several times this year and both teams seems to not have their best nights. I would like to see both teams at their best. I think it would be a great game.

Neither team looked great offensively. Both teams played hard but looked tired. Usually if you are not scoring it is either outstanding defense or you have no legs. Owen did a great job of not letting Devine get loose.

If either of these teams played like this against WV they would lose by 20.

Gayheart did a lot of holding on devine and also when devine did slip gayheart she was picked up as soon as she did.They did cause devine an off night but not all of it was great defense by gayheart. I think it was a team effort.NO excuses here Owen won but Gayheart was not the main reason

It's all about prespective, isn't it? Since when is 8 points and 5 rebounds nothing? The Lady Panthers aren't my team, but Devine is an outstanding player and deserves credit.

 

I think in the next matchup (providing neither team is injured) that it's just as likely that the Lady Panthers will win the next matchup.

When Gayheart guarded Devine, Devine only had 3 points and those points were a desperation 3. Holding happens ALL the time on the court both teams and players do it and get away with it.

 

So Gayheart having nearly half Owens points and being a major part of containing Devine was not a major reason to Owens victory?!:idunno:
