Why did Highlands and Ryle play twice this season? The KHSAA has Highlands beating Ryle 37-14 on Aug. 28 and 31-14 on Oct. 30.

This has been talked about quite a bit this year but its because both teams were having scheduling problems and thus settled on playing a 2nd game this year. In actuality it isn't that bad as Ryle was, IMO, one of the top 10 teams in 6A and Highlands was the #1 team in 5A and arguably the best team in the state.

The second game was a little closer than the score showed. It was a close game at halftime! But Highlands ran away with it in the second half.

That is most likely attributed to the fact that they were still breaking in their sophomore QB since their starter went down with an injury but it was still a convincing victory nonetheless.

I think it was scheduled because both teams were having difficulty finding a 10th game. Ryle did not want to play a cupcake just to get a victory and chose to seek a second game vs. Highlands for 2 straight years. I'm pretty sure they meet twice again in 2010. Should be very close games next year IMO as Ryle will be much improved and Highlands is always good but probably not as good as the 2009 team.
