Christian County 13 Warren Central 7

Featured Replies

Great season that far exceeded expectations, but this was definitely a painful loss. Definitely a game that Central could have won. Christian County forced two key turnovers in the second half to make a 13-7 halftime lead stand up. The first came on Warren Central's first possession of the second half, when they'd driven to the Christian County 10. Troy Halcomb had trouble with the snap and went to the left, but the Colonels came up with the ball. It was the only time Central got inside the Colonel 30 in the second half. The second key turnover was on Central's last major threat. They had a 2nd and 1 from the CC 40 with about four and a half minutes left. Central had been running the ball very effectively, but decided to take a shot downfield with the short yardage. Halcomb threw up a jump ball, and Central lost. The Dragons had one more shot, taking over at their own 9 with 2:10 left in the game, but with no timeouts. Not a recipe for success. Central got to their own 40.

All the scoring took place in the second quarter. Christian County opened the scoring on a 58 yard reverse by Tandy to go up 7-0. Central answered following a Christian County muff near midfield, getting the score on a Halcomb keeper with 18 seconds left in the half. Turned out, that was 18 seconds too long. After the first kickoff went out of bounds, Central opted to kick deep to Banks, who took it at the 5 and went untouched for the 95 yard score. I've never seen a convoy like the one he had. It looked like the old flying V from the Mighty Ducks movies, with Banks surrounded by 4 blockers. Only the kicker had a shot, and a kicker versus 4 blockers = TD. Turned out to be the winning score.

Banks is the real deal. He was a hoss for them tonight. Central would hit him at the line, and he would just fall forward for 5 yards. Central would usually make one key play a drive to stop the Colonel offense, employing a bend don't break philosophy, but before that play would happen, Banks was gashing them.

Still, I expect Bowling Green to take home the regional title next week. I think I'd have taken either Owensboro or BG over Christian County or Central.

How many did Christian win this year?

Thanks for the recap of the game. I was unable to make it. You are right, WC far exceeded expectations this year. I am excited about an 8-4 season, but even more pumped that we beat BG and finished the season out strong. Now that momentum can carry over to the weight room. Even though we lost last night, maybe the sting of a close loss in the 2nd round will make the returning players work even harder. Congrats to the Seniors on closing their careers out on a higher note than most expected. :thumb:

Hopefully, the opening of the new high school won't severly hurt WC in the long run like some are anticipating.

Christian Co. is 8-4. On a side note, I drove by the Stadium of Champions last night and there was hardly anybody in the stands on the home side. It is such a shame that the students and people in town do not support that team. A beautiful night for football and your team in the playoffs and still--nobody is there? I don't get it.:idunno:

It's pathetic. Warren Central is not tremendously well supported, even at home, and even our fans outnumbered Christian County's.

There was an article in the Kentucky New Era on Thursday pleading fans to come out. They talked to a player from the 80s who said he wished these players could play one game in the type of atmosphere they had every week. The Colonel fans don't deserve a home venue that nice.

You are exactly right. It is shameful. Joe Wilson, the KNE columnist that wrote the article, usually writes one a season along those same lines. Unfortunately it doesn't do any good.

Boyle had right at a 4 hour drive and out numbered their fans 2 or 3-1 in the a rain storm.

Congrats to Christian County, you has a very good football team and good luck next week.:thumb:
