The staff and program will be fine. I bet if you ask the players they loved playing for these coaches this year and even though record wise it wasnt great Im sure they had fun.

 

Seemed that they were maybe just outmanned this year. They didnt have much size up front although those guys seemed to play hard they were just out matched. They had a quarterback that was his first time ever playing the position who looked good at times and struggled at others which you would expect.

 

There is really only so much a coach can do. These guys are doing it right and they know football. I expect they will have a nice off season and we start to see a difference next year.

 

If "The Staff," continues to do what has been done in the past, they will get the exact same disappointing result . I expect changes will come from the staff during the off season to get the program rolling in the right direction...

Newport's staff IMO has already started in the right direction. Discipline is a big part of a program being successful. The staff has proven that they are in the business of promoting discipline and involving academics too. The off season should be a plus for the team. I stated before there are lot of students that play year round sports so there has to be a connection with the other coaches to unite and develop a solid program that will benefit everyone. Newport's program will develop because they have a coach in place that wants the best for everyone and all of the programs.

Newport has a lot of athletes that won't play football. They are set on playing only one or two sports and a smaller school like Newport needs those kids to come out and play. I don't know how that would work out with the other sports and there coach because most sports over lap some. I'm sure The basketball coach don't want his star player on the football field or working out when the basketball team is on the court. Baseball is going on i wouldn't think they would want the baseball team together. How does this work out for kids that play more than one sport.

JL was a St. Pius kid and undoubtedly headed to CovCath if he didn't go to Highlands I'd guess.

I believe you're missing my point here. What I'm suggesting is that all the coaches get together and form a program that is going to benefit all of them. This is not a way to get everyone to play football but a way to keep everyone on the same page as far as working out and being more academic. Yes I know that several of the sports do over lap but an effort among all of the sports would benefit everyone IMO.

Coach Rice is the AD he should be able to work something out it would be good for all Newport sports. But I am saying the progam needs the better athletes that only play basketball or only play baseball or any other sport to come out for football also. If the program is going to get better the kids have to come out .

I agree with you 100 percent. The better student / athletes need to participate in all of the sports possible. Now IMO you also need to weed out the ones that are merely there for themselves and have no respect for their coaches and discipline to be involved in the programs. These are what I call cancers to a program and do nothing but hurt a program. Newport has had their fair share of these types of athletes recently too. IMO I believe this is what keeps some of the talent away from other sports. Some of the seniors this year that would have helped the football IMO were Collins, McDaniels, Hatfield and Plank. I'm sure I missed a few but those few I named have talent and are excellent students that know how to be successful. I believe that you and I are on the same path in that we both want the best for all of the programs. IMO I believe that Coach Rice in the position of AD will hopefully help all of the programs both boys and girls. :thumb:
