By reading the posts it sounds to be a bit more than just team rules and if so I would agree a one game suspension is not enough. While this young man may be a very good kid that made a mistake, he must realize that he is a senior that should be setting good examples for the underclassmen. This program is in a very young stage and the examples that are set by the players, coaches and administrators regarding a suspension could have very long term effects. Whatever the mistake was I hope that he has learned a valuable lesson and the punishment he was given fit the mistake that was made?

Im just wondering how many years BBsports has had playing football and coaching? He seems to know alot about the game and I wonder why he isn't coaching? If the coaches are so bad, they could use your help. I do think that this year has been good for the program, since they had never one a game in program history. IMO the coaches can't be that bad.

Here's the best call Ive seen this year (Brossart scored against Dayton they needed 2 point conversion, but lined up to kick extra point. Snapped ball holder rolled out to pass hit TE for 2 points. That was a nice call) They definitely are better this year more exp. stronger and a softer schedule help. What I hope for when I got on here was some different reasons for why they made some of these play calls and (aptr) you did and I appreciated. You guys take things personally. I'm sure they will walk on water this weekend.

If he has had that much play calling exp. then why not help your offense and put points on the board. They had three tries to score and netted nothing (lost yardage). You take the points. Now believe me I'm wide open for reason's thats why I like reading comments it gives you a chance to see different points of view. Sorry to pick on your buddy.

I know what coach your talking about. I grew up with him and he is one of my best friends. If you think you can do better why don't you apply for his job? He is doing the best he can with what he has out there. He and the other coaches has to be doing a good job if they are going to their first playoff game in the history of their school. One other thing he doesn't have to coach with his job as a full time job as a dentist. I'm sure he does it because he loves the game. He played on State Title Football Teams at Beechwood like myself so I'm sure he is trying to bring that mental attitude to Brossart.

Nobody is taking anything personal at all. The reason the play calling your talking about is because they have guys who are hurt. He doesn't want to risk any more injurys to the guys you already have banged up. That sound's like a pretty good reason to me for the play calling your complaining about.

Football is a sport of discipline and when you set a precedent by having a 1 game suspension it sends a message that this program may not be able to afford. It's not just this incident, it seems to be a recurring pattern of minor "corrections" for "good kids" who play sports at BBHS. To top it off, it was Senior Night, so he got to walk and be recognized. Seems that the message was light, remains to be seen if he "learned his lesson", life will tell that tale.

Couldn't agree with you more 242. Poor example by the staff to let this one go. I think he is a good kid that made some poor choices, but what a poor message sent to all the other "good kids" who kept their noses clean.

I'd love to hear your examples for making this statement???? Certainly understand your questioning setting a precedent of looking the other way for athletes, but I think you'll find Brossart's athletic programs pretty stringent on issues like this (certainly including academics) in comparison to many, many of the other area programs??

 

Big believer in giving kids a second chance, especially before any issues are resolved. Also a big believer in discipline when its warrented, and in giving no special favors to athletes. I think an examination of BB's past will show, if anything athletes must adhere to a stronger standard than their student population in general; and certainly much more stringent than most of the area schools!!

RiverDog, that is a wager you would have lost. Not only played, but coached and as a player if I had gotten in trouble in or outside the school, the school would not have had to worry about any type of suspension because my parents would have taken care of that. As a coach I held the program and players to high standards, so maybe my way of taken care of this would have had a short effect to the team, in the long run it would have been best for the program. I can assure that this young man, while not understanding now, would be back in future years and hopefully respected what was done to him to make him a better person. I have had to do this in the past, and while not a very easy task, it created a understanding with the team of what acceptable and unacceptable actions are.

 

As for no one in Maysville would have every found out and it being swept under the rug.......:confused: I would have to say Mr. Hester would disagree with that statement.

 

It is also ironic that you use Tracey Jones words, while he will use that statement often, you may want to check and see why his child is no longer in Kentucky, similiar situtation but worse.

 

I guess I look at sports in a different light, while it can be the best years of your life, the decisions that are made during those years in the classroom and socially will have a longer more drastic effect. Last time that I checked, those in the NFL, NBA and Major Leagues are far less that those in the adult business world.
