Senior night for North Laurel. Every senior carried the ball at least once.

If the stats I was given are correct, Jackson County had negative yards for the game and only 1 first down that wasn't the result of a penalty. This game could have been MUCH worse. Larkey let every senior carry the ball at least once and a few, who hadn't carried the ball scored a TD.

 

Carter will build a good program at Jackson County, but it will just take time until the middle school and little league programs begin to feed him kids who have played before they get to the high school.

It ended up with jackson county having 12 yards rushing and 9 receiving. A couple late runs helped get them over the hump. North had 11 seniors on defense tonight, 4 who usually don't start. This game could have been much much worse (in the 80's). North held back on offense as much as possible (Three linemen carried the ball and each one had a 12+ yard gain). Three of the TD's were scored by players who had never scored in a varsity game (all three seniors). Jackson's kids played hard and were classy in the loss. Glad North's seniors went out on a huge win and snapped a streak of losing seasons.

 

North was 7 points (and about 10 flags at letcher) from winning 7 or 8 games. Should be a bright future in the Jungle.

Everything I've heard about Carter indicates that things are moving in the right directions, but they're going to move verrrrry slowly. I've said all along that those feeder programs should have been in place for three or four years before they ever fielded a high school team, but no, they had to jump in the deep end of the pool. You can't win if you have to teach varsity players what their opponents learned four or six or eight years earlier.

Ugh, first winless season for my Generals. That's a tough pill to swallow.

Things will be fine for the Generals they will need some time.

Coach Larkey is the rudder on the NL ship. Pat the administration at North on the back for a great hire. They will be very competitive in their district from this point forward.

Congratulations to NL on a great season. You won several games early that you were not supposed to win and had a couple of real close ones. It is a shame that a team that has done so well did not make the playoffs, but it was a very tough district and should be tough next year. Coach Larkey and staff has done a tremendous job and has great backing from the administration and fans.

:thumb: My understanding is the only reason they finally started little league was because of Coach Carter. In the next 8 years, this will be a MUCH different team and program than we are seeing right now.

Going into this season, there were only 2 games that most thought NL would win, ... SL and Jackson County. They won 5 and lost some heartbreakers along the way. The staff from Larkey to Sams (DC) and every coach on that staff did a great job in stepping the program up a notch. NL could be even better next year, but have some work to do in the off season. They have to get much stronger up front to compete with Whitley and Harlan's line play. The toughest senior players to lose from this bunch (IMHO) are Baker (156 tackles at LB and had not played since middle school), Shears (was top 5 in 5A in receptions, TDs and yards), Sapcut (1 tough hombre) and Wardrup ()over 1,000 yards for 2 straight seasons).
