Why would you pull the plug? So that you can teach the kids that Have been working and attempting to play football that it is better to quit than overcome adversity. I don't think so.

That is such a great statement. I don't want to get off topic but quitting is definitely not the answer as you are setting a bad precedent for all age groups and the athletic program as a whole. We played Bracken early in the year and they are not to the point they need to quit. Keep working and developing the kids it will come. We see teams that were once perinnial playoff teams struggle with consecutive losing seasons, only to bounce back. If Bracken has teams playing at a young age and they keep developing things will eventually get better.

Congratulations to Trimble on another solid win. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year.

So better to be laughing stock?, just saying. Do you continue to go winless and mostly scoreless for the next 5-6 years or have the kids put their energy into another sport? Have watched Bracken County play a few times over the last several years and the kids year after year seem to be scared, they only arm tackle, never ever tackle with their bodies or put their head down and hit somebody, everything on offense or defense is straight up, it's like watching pee-wee football. Want the program to succeed, but when only enough kids go out that they have to play both offense and defense, what do you do?

I saw some good solid efforts out of some of the BC boys last night. They will not get from another sport what they do from football, just like they won't get from football what they do, say from basketball. Different sports appeal to different kids. I think that giving up is TOO easy. The boys that play week in and week out have my respect and certainly, too, does the coach and assistants that are trying to put the pieces together to form a program that can win games. They need support from their school and their community.

It seems to me that as long as BC can get enough kids to field a team that there should be no reason to "Pull the Plug". Some kids play football because they love the game and it would not be fair to those who do. BC needs to hold there heads up high and not give up. Like the old saying -- Good things come to those who wait--.

Building a program takes time and patience. Athletics mirrors life and there are things that you learn irregardless if you are winning or losing that prepare you for the future. Bracken has been in a down cycle and eventually the tide will turn. It's not difficult to figure out why team's lose and I am sure the coaches are aware and are working to remedy the situation. It comes down to execution of fundamentals, developing the right mindset to compete, and making plays on game night. Eventually the tide will turn. Keep plugging away.

I just wanted to give a little pat on the back for Trimble County's ball girl. She broke 2 fingers catching a bad pass from an official Friday night...and kept on doing her job the rest of the game! Who says football is only for the guys? :D Way to be strong, Chelsea!

:ohbrother: We will have extra ball-tossing practice after our next officials meeting.

Get well soon Chelsea, and thank you very much for showing the boys how to be tough!

 The sloppy, muddy ball is to blame, I am afraid. When you have to change the ball out on every down, it's bound to happen. No slight was meant toward any of our fine officials!

Wish I had some guys as tough as Chelsea. Get better soon.

Trimble's 2 remaining games are to Gallatin Co. and Nicholas Co. I personally hope the Polar Bears can shock the world with one of those two.

I've seen pro athletes that are getting paid millions sit out for broken fingers.:D

Bracken needs to go to a JV schedule and try to build their numbers up and get some success in the program then try it again. Playing kids 15 mins out of the 8th grade at the varsity level will get you no where. You cant expect a 14 year old kid to be competetive with an 18 year old kid on Friday night. I am not taking anything away from any of the kids on this team but you cant throw 14 year old kids to the wolves and expect success. I seen the comments on BGP asking why certain 9th graders are not playing skilled positions on the Polar Bears squad. Be realistic here. Give the kids a chance to develop and they will be successful, throw them in there as freshamn beat them up every friday night by 40 points and you may not find them on the field when they are juniors and seniors. If not them pulling th eplug then their parents who was pushing for playing time as a freshman have pulled them becasue they dont want them playing for a lossing team. Bracken needs to take a look at their program and go strictly independent or JV until they get get things rolling. Not bashing them or any kids just my opinion which I have been told doesnt mean much.

Don't you only get 4 years of varsity eligibility in football? (I think) Therefore if they are playing at all as 8th graders they can't play as seniors!

Agree with everything just said, Bracken County should have never went to a varsity schedule from the very beginning when they started football and should stick with being an independent JV forever just for those kids that want to play football. Just wish the powers that be would get this through their heads. I mean the 5th-8th grade won 3 games this season. Things aren't going to magically turn around for the next 5 years if at all, but for those that want and love to play football, independent JV would be the way to go.

Respectfully, I simply don't understand this thinking. Why should the football kids not have a right to compete at the varsity level?

Not everyone or every school can compete on the Varsity level in some sports. If the district wants to have a team, then they should have a team but I do understand the JV idea. You have to walk before you can run and it's easily seen that this team cannot run right now. I believe that they could one day, but until a coaching staff feels the team can win games year in and year out, they should consider an option that allows the kids to learn the game. I know that this is not fair because you will have some kids that can play at the Varsity level, but is it worth the school to put the money aside for this if the kids are not ready to compete at that level? You can vote for both sides on this, but it really comes down to the district and how they want to run the program.
