Can anybody predict how bad dixie is gonna beat holmes, i'm guessing 42 to 14

 

Will Stansberry be playing? I don't recall seeing him out there for the Highlands' game.

With Raleigh and Stansberry possibly out for this game, I would look for Goose Cohorn and Brian Pillman to be on the field for Dixie. From what I've been hearing, Zumdick has some ligament damage and is probably done for the year.

I know Raleigh got hurt in the game Friday, but not sure what he hurt.

If you're referring to #3 and #41, I doubt they'll be on the field much unless they've jumped everybody on the depth chart this week. They really haven't played much varsity at all this year. The defensive line rotation will be the same as this past Friday night as neither of these guys play on the line, and there isn't a linebacker that they could move to the line. The backfield will consist of the usual starters and backups (6, 19, 15, 51, 23, 4, 14, 30).

I've seen them two play this year, solid at tackling and hard hitters. And yes, they would have to move up on the depth chart. I thought Cohorn is a safety? #3 right?

Menkhaus (sp??) has been playing safety lately with Wolfe and Raleigh banged up. When a linebacker goes out, Koller (55) is usually the first off the bench. When a DB goes out, either Menkhaus (4), Bruns (9), or 19 comes in. Klei has seen a little defense lately too.

Last year Dixie beat Holmes like 49-0 or something like that.

I think that this is a game were we really see how good Holmes is.

I am a Holmes fan in this one but I honestly haven't seen Dixie play. From a Holmes aspect though, they need to get a lead and play from infront rather than behind. They have an excellent spread rushing attack that the backs and QB are really good at finding and hitting the creases. If they get behind and have to toss the ball around I think they could be in trouble. The way they got to 6-0 was by getting ahead of there opponets and allowing the QB and Oden to run the football. I have yet to see them play from a deficit this season and I think if they get down 14 or so it will be very hard for them to dig out of it. Hopefully they can score early and there defense is flying around and they can take it. 7-0 is unheard of at Holmes in my time on this earth and I would love to see it.

We're 6 games into the season. Why do we think they are suddenly going to tackle better?

 

 

And I'll use the old basketball phrase, "play defense with your feet and not your hands." If the arm tackling and reaching continue on defense, Holmes guys will run right by them. As I remember from past games, Holmes also likes to strip the ball rather than making a big stick. Dixie needs to take care of the rock, stop the silly penalties, keep the verbage to a minimum, and just play ball.

Dixie has been the heavy favorite every year. However, they have struggled at Holmes lately. IMO, Holmes speed and quickness will pose problems for Dixie. Dixie has to be carefull on the punts too. Holmes used to allow the punter to roam around until a defender got close. As soon as the defender closed in on the punter, he'd kick it real quick. Dixie got called for multiple roughing the kicker calls 2 years ago.

I do remember seeing Cohorn at safety last Friday at Highlands in the first half.

If Dixie can refrain from turning the ball over as much as they have been lately, AND start tackling better, they can win this game. If the defense doesn't play well then forget it.

 

Thanks for some info on Dixie. Holmes' D has good fundamentals I was really impressed with their games against Franklin and Llyod. Their DE's are smart and stay home LB's are big, fast and love to hit. The O is tough to stop if they have a lead like bigmarc said. This is definately a test for the Holmes team, if they can win this I don't see them losing in the regular season. with that being said the coaches will need to channel their attitudes and keep it confident not cocky.
