Dixie 36 Highlands 28 (JV)

Featured Replies

Come on now. It is starting to sound like this is sour grapes about HHS losing a JV game to Dixie.

Yeah, we're down. A loss like this defines the whole season for the Birds.

Off to squeeze some more vinegar......

 Touchy, touchy. Hey, I am not even a Dixie fan. Dixie has a good team so no embarrassment in losing that game. And losing that game surely doesn't mean you are down. Everyone knows Towles wasn't even there. I just think HHS is above excuse making. The program is the envy of the area but that doesn't mean HHS teams will win every game they play. So HHS lost a JV game to a good team. Like I said, learn from it so it doesn't happen again.

Just wondering...what are the rules/guidelines for playing varsity on Friday and then JV on Saturday?

I don't really think there are any rules. I think it's moreso a gentleman's aggreement that typically seniors don't play, and if you're a regular starter on varsity, you typically don't play JV. Pike's situation is somewhat unique, but probably similar to that at other schools. Dixie (just like every other school that doesn't have enough athletes to run one-way) puts their best 11 guys out there on defense. Pike happens to be one of them. Pike is also the backup QB, and only a sophomore with 1 year of experience playing that position. The only way for him to gain experience is to play, which isn't going to happen at the varsity level with Wilson. Therefore, he only plays QB at the JV level.

Sorry , don't have an answer for you...

but for what its worth, a GCL dad told me this morning that only Sophomores play JV in the GCL.

Which makes sense when you have over 100 guys combined JV and varsity. Heck, their freshman teams can field 100 guys.

Nah, not at all. Not to downplay the contributions or efforts of the JV squad for either school, but it has very little sway over anything that happens this year or next year. Just a chance to get kids who are the future of your program some playing time. If this game had been a shutout there would be no cause for embarrassment. Friday night is what defines your program.

Ozzie Rosenhagen with another pick....................what is that seven? AND recovered a fumble in varsity on Friday ! He has a nose....does he sleep with a football !

Good question. Hopefully someone will have the answer. The only thing I would say is I don't think anyone plays seniors in JV games, but I am not sure if that is a rule. I just think most coaches don't do it. But a lot of teams, especially smaller schools will have guys who play varsity also play JV. Usually you don't see a player who starts varsity play JV.

If you are asking the question because of Pike, I think it is a very good move by Dixie to play him in JV games at QB. I don't think he plays any defense in JV games, just QB. He needs the reps at QB because last year was his first year as a QB.

Not asking because of this series or to start heated debate...just something I've been wondering and this thread's direction seemed to be a good place to ask.
